The second method is to draw blood actively. The draw can be done with a standard syringe or with a bulb in the tubing of the blood bag which creates suction. Studies have shown that when blood is drawn actively it will collect a larger volume with a faster speed.3. Some banks collect cord blood “outside the uterus" called as ‘ex Utero’. In this, until the placenta is delivered out trained technician needs to wait and then takes it into another room and puts it on a high shelf so that all of the blood in the umbilical cord and placenta can be drained out.In major cases, the collections are made after delivery of the baby and ligation of the cord is done prior to the expulsion of the placenta. Before the collection of cord blood, the cord is wiped with alcohol or betadine to ensure sterility of the collection.Hope this answers the question.
