The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is the nation's largest youth employment program, connecting NYC youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experience each summer.SYEP provides all of its participants with an 8 hour orientation prior to placement with a worksite to provide the youth with key information to be utilized while working for the program and in real life employment opportunities they can take with them.Applicants to the SYEP must apply online at New Castle County Summer Youth Employment Program, starting February 1, 2020. Along with the online application, applicants should also upload copies of their photo ID in the form of a school ID, driver's License, State-issued ID, or a school registration form with photo embedded.

The list of questions and assumptions I’ve encountered during my travels and summer school programs:“Does that mean you live in Bali?”I honestly wish I did, but I live in Jakarta, since you know, there’s more to Indonesia than just Bali. I would kindly correct them that I am Christian and I eat pork.“I thought you were from the Philippines, since I figured that all women in Indonesia would wear hijab.”An encounter in Europe, where a lady sat next to me and my sister’s table, a Muslim woman herself, assumed that Indonesia was like the UAE. I’d imagine it would be weird if it applied here since the minority here’s still considered a large number.“Is it hard to buy alcohol there?!”It’s not, but alcohol prices here are quite expensive, and it’s prohibited during Ramadhan.“Do you really bring your own spices every time you travel abroad?”A Japanese friend curiously asked me as she saw a part of my suitcase that was equipped with Indomie, Boncabe, and Sambal ABC sachets. Not all, but most do. It was more than essential to carry when I went to Europe (my palette just can’t match with theirs, it’s too bland.)“Do Indonesians speak English as good as you do?”No, unfortunately.
