Yes. And no. Mostly no.You see, Indiana Jones and Lara Croft are both archaeologist of a sort by trade. But more than this, they've often caused WAY more trouble than anything elseIndiana is a college professor of Archaeology and a former serviceman around the WWII era where he eventually attained the rank of colonel. So these things are absolutely doable in real life.Now for Lara, her history has changed off and on throughout the years. Currently she's the daughter of a famed (but deceased) archaeologist. She would often travel with him to various places and this instilled a passion for various cultures in her and nurtured her love of archaeological work. This is also doable in the real world as there are many an amateur and volunteer archaeological site in the world.Now the problem(s) come from their other activities while doing their archaeological work…the tomb raiding, grave robbing, breaking into tombs and such, and finally the blantant robbing and thieving of ancient/historical sites. This is a HUGE no-no by several laws including international, federal, Maritime, transnational laws and MANY more. Though legit archaeological work is frequent the nature of the work itself often borderlines breaking or at the very least infringing upon these laws.Many of said work is often tacted on with various museum work or their associates. And this can help them immensely. But it isn't particularly lucrative with the average salary (in the US being roughly 50k a year) unless you're something amazing (in which case you could make upwards to 80k or more a year). Or if you have some particularly sticky fingers. Which seems to be the case with Lara (at least the first few games where we see she has some impressive and highly valuable items of interest).For example, in the real world the British Museums are currently in a bit of dumpster fire because they've stole am ASS LOAD of history. People like Indiana and Lara (grave robbers) “acquired" a metric ton of ancient history from.around the world and either “sold" or “donated” them to the British Museums. The issue is that these countries now no longer have ANY feasible method of learning their own history without travelling to Britain (which isn't always a possibility) or buying books and such to learn about their own history. And there's also the mummy paint issue. Totally a thing. British people once used mummies and made them in a “paint" called “mummy brown" which they used to paint SEVERAL homes and buildings. They literally painted their homes with deceased people. But I digress.So yeah…you totally could do what they do. But not quite like what you think.And there ya go.
