One day, I just couldn’t stand it anymore and got my father to take me to A&E and since XYZ Hospital was the nearest, we went there.The doctor who saw me got my father to leave the room and started questioning me, insisting that I was stressed and depressed which left me in tears afterwards. She got the psychiatric doctor on call to see me and I was put on antidepressants that day.Ever since then, I’ve avoided going there but I guess one really has no say when you’re unconscious, in the back of an ambulance.I was subsequently diagnosed after a little bit more than a year of seeing different specialists at the children’s hospital.2nd Incident at XYZ HospitalI was going home from school and I fainted - yes, again. I didn’t have any identification on me, yes, I’ve learnt my lesson but why didn’t all these people look into my bag? But wait, what was happening?As if waking up in A&E resus wasn’t confusing enough, his questions made me even more confused. I was so out of it for probably another 45mins - 60mins but I managed to give them my details so why didn’t they read my medical history since they are under the same system as the children’s hospital I go to? I don’t know. They left me alone and the doctors came back to me later.Dr: So, admit it, what have you taken today?Me: Huh?Dr: Don’t try to act and smoke your way through as if you don’t know what is going on or else I will call the police immediately.Me: (Finally understanding what is going on and started wailing) I have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome and (blah blah blah) I don’t take anything illegal except for (lists prescription medications).Then, a nurse speaks up. I don’t know her name but I will be eternally grateful for her and what she did.Nurse: Her tox screen was normal. Do you not trust the results?*Cue the awkward silence in the room*Me: Please read my medical history.The doctors all rushed to the laptop and finally they looked at me and were like, “Ohhh.”I have already totally gave up on them at this point and ignored them.They decided that I needed to get admitted for more fluids and monitoring and my family was finally contacted. I got transferred to the children’s hospital I usually go to because I couldn’t bear to stay in that XYZ Hospital for any longer and vowed to never go there again.I absolutely hate how cocky some doctors are. Like seriously, who are you? Please don’t treat me as if I’m a druggie, hypochondriac or someone with psychiatric illness. I’m not saying that the above should be treated differently which gets me to my next point. I don’t get why doctors have to treat those with psychiatric illness differently? An illness is an illness and everyone deserves to be respected and get treatment without being judged.
