But the mantras of Rig Veda make it clear that Soma is the “juice of life”. Soma is the symbol of all the immortal rasa that is the foundation of life. Soma and Agni are both called “pavamAna” or “pAvaka” which means “purifier”, and “pavitra” which means “pure”. So many of the epithets and synonyms are shared between Agni and Soma, because in reality they are both metaphysically the same Agni. It is the omnipresence of Agni that ultimately gives the immortality and purifying properties to other entities. Just as wood can generate fire because Agni is already present in it, similarly Soma is a purifier because of its origin in Agni. The entire ninth maṇḍala of 114 hymns in the Rig Veda is dedicated to Soma.The inner meaning of the relationship between Agni and Soma is that they are symbols for the archetypal primeval universal metaphysical categories consumer and consumed. Soma being the archetype of all matter, and Agni being the archetype of all energy. The Agni-Soma pair represents the most fundamental duality in the universe. This Vedic metaphysics corresponds very well with the physics of the interchangeability of matter and energy as shown in Einstein’s special theory of relativity.As Rig Veda 3.26.7 says: “ajasro gharmo havirasmi nAma” — “I am both eternal heat and the matter being offered into it”. This corroborates the above statements regarding the relationship between matter and energy in physics.In the Prashna Upanishad, these categories are renamed as “prANa” (energy) and “rayi” (matter). Furthermore, it says that the sun is prANa and the moon is rayi. Clearly, the sun is a form of Agni and the moon is a form of Soma.As for Mitra and Varuna, their pairing is not directly or obviously analogous to the Agni-Soma pair.In the Vedas, Mitra being a form of the sun, symbolizes the day, and Varuna symbolizes the night. Varuna also being associated with water, can be extrapolated to be related to Soma.Hence, it can be argued that by extrapolation, Mitra is analogous to Agni and Varuna is analogous to Soma. However, it cannot be said that there is complete correspondence between the two pairs.

Maharashtra under Devendra Fadnavis had a good administration which was free of scams and graft. By Making preposterous allegations of lying against BJP it more or less closed all doors for reconciliation between the partners of 30 years and hence have exited the longest political alliance.The Sena’s claims of the CM post and other demands hold no water as their performance in the elections does not justify these claims. However, Sena’s future is at stake, as its support base and electoral performances have slowly eroded, especially after the demise of Bala Saheb Thackeray. With BJP coming to power at the Center and in a majority of the states, Sena faces an uncertain future and perhaps even complete disappearance if they continue the alliance with BJP as their ideological trump card “Hindutva” has been more or less appropriated by BJP. Leaving them with only one other ideology “Marathi Pride” for which it has a rival - NCP. However, pulling out of a decades old alliance may not have been accepted by its followers, hence Sena has tried to paint its long term partner in bad light. They have called BJP liars and set an impossible condition that Sena would only talk if BJP publicly accepted they had lied. Knowing that BJP would not acknowledge it and hence Uddhav had the excuse of pulling out of the alliance on this reason, even though it is a preposterously frivolous one. Will the people accept this is something will be known only in the future.Sena’s endeavours for an alliance with NCP and Congress is not an easy one either. While Hindutva was an ideological common factor in its alliance with BJP, with NCP, the Sena is addressing a common constituency - The Marathi speaking population and Marathas. This is very similar to the unholy post poll Congress-JDS alliance in Karnataka. Both Congress and JDS have similar ideologies and were rivals for the same vote banks in Karnataka. They were decimated in the 2019 lok Sabha elections as both lost support of their grass roots level workers. The 13 month alliance collapsed and paved the way for the BJP to form the Government. The fate of an alliance of Sena+NCP and possibly with outside support from Congress is in all likelihood will end up with the same fate.However, the electoral fortunes of a post poll alliance of the 3 dynastic parties may be tested some time in the future, it is important to understand what is going to happen in the present. The BJP could have taken NCP support, either as a participating partner or from outside to form the Government . BJP has decided not to stake claim as it knows by not staking claim to form the Government the party will be gaining in the long term.It is looking more and more certain that Sena and NCP will form a coalition government with outside support of Congress. This may, for the time being, stave off the constitutional crisis and President’s rule.By insisting that the CM will be from Sena, Sena may get the CMs post. Aditya Thackeray may become the CM, however, Sena my have to sacrifice plum portfolios to NCP. Congress, though supporting the coalition from outside, will not be a passive supporter.The new coalition will be an alliance of three parties with strong regional leaders having considerable political clout. Ajit Powar, the possible DCM, will be simmering as he will be the deputy to the greenhorn scion of another dynastic party, while he himself i- a dynast, being Sharad Powar’s nephew and till very recently the successor to Sharad Powar before the Supriya Sule, Sharad’s daughter has staked claim to displace Ajit. Ashok Chavan, anointed as CM in the after math of 26/11 when Congress had to sacrifice Vikas Rao Deshmukh, had to make way for Prithvi Raj Chauhan. Both have unfulfilled ambitions and would see this as an opportunity to increase their clout within the Congress party. New generation is emerging in NCP and Congress, with the backing of the patriarchs, too will throw their weights around for achieving their personal agendas. The coalition will be pulled in different direction due to the strong personalities. Ideology and religion / caste based compulsions will be pushed to the side.Maharashtra may have a Government in the next few days. The state however, is headed for a period of uncertainty and non-governance, with a greenhorn CM and a powerful deputy. The people of Maharashtra can only pray, that the most prosperous state in our country and the financial capital, will emerge out of this situation earlier- before too much damage is done, rather than later - when the state has slipped down the ladder of development.
