Translation: park on the side so they (BP=Border Patrol) can harass you and interrogate you and you don’t block the Freeway thoroughfare.Mistake, This was my first mistake was pulling over to 2ndary. DO NOT move to Secondary. Stay in the freeway lane. Take out your cell phone and record them.Actually, my first mistake was rolling down my window. When you pass through these checkpoints Don’t Roll Down your window, Keep it Rolled up.If they (BP) speak to you, then crack the window 1 inch and respond, “yes” or “no”. Under no circumstance should you move TO SECONDARY.I’ll tell you why!!!! I had locked my car when I got out, and I could see they were trying to open the doors and trunk.I had told them I DO NOT CONSENT to a search. Get a Warrant. They said fine. We’ll have to put you in a cage, (Mobile Home Jail) while they wait to wake up a judge and get a warrant. A long the way, they tell me to empty my pockets. They said keep your wallet leave the keys.So in lockup, we get let out 45 minutes later, and they BP had “Illegally searched and gone through my car” without a warrant and without contacting a judge. F#CKING CORRUPT MORONS. They obviously didn’t find anything because they let us go. I filed a complaint with the ACLU IN AZ, and there was an article printed up about in the PHOENIX REPUBLIC Newspaper.Translation: 1-hour later we were on our way!!! He was on the AZ side, when this AZ Highway Patrol pulled up along side him. My buddy was behind a Semi-Truck and didn’t want to get in front of the AZ HP and pass him then get lit up for speeding. So the Corrupt AZ HP got behind my buddy and lit him up any ways.Now after leaving the Marines, my buddy has a PhD in nutrition and natural remedies. So He had spilled some of his anti-infection Oregano oil in his car on his back pack.The AZ HP pulled him over and asked him why he was following that Semi so closely??? My buddies response was what I wrote above, “because I saw you and didn’t want to pass that Semi and then you’d lite me up for speeding.Now this AZ HP was a K9 unit, so he had a dog, and he did the dog thing. But the dog DID NOT LITE UP. Translation: the dog never detected a smell going around the Ford Explore 3 times. As I mentioned above, the Dog will Squat or sit down if he detects a scent of illicit or illegal drugs. The cop asks him to step out of his car.See his first mistake was getting out of his car.So the cop asks, you don’t have any weapons or drugs on you or in your car do you. ???? He replies “no”. Then asks the AZ HP Cop, you don’t have any Narcotics on you do you??? Cause I don’t want you to plant that in my car which while your searching it and say it’s mine.. Not within US Borders.Long Story short, 1-hour later my Marine friend was free to leave with a written warning for following that Semi too closely. And that BOGUS stop to harass him and do some “illegal searching” and do some illegal “Civil Asset Forfeiture”. Which is basically Highway ROBBERY by Police, Deputies, State Police and Highway Patrol.He’s one of these Non-Tech guys who doesn’t have a smart phone to record or download the ACLU CA JUSTICE Live Streaming appl.I’m currently in the process of writing up a compliant about that AZ HP for my buddy. I got on the radio so that units further up might be able to intercept him.The next exit was about 2 miles up the road. I saw the truck get off at that exit, so I exited as well. He was stopped at a red light, and that allowed me to get behind him and turn my blue lights on. When I approached the vehicle, I could see that his hands were on top of the steering wheel, and he was shaking something fierce. He knew that he had screwed up.I asked him what on Earth possessed him to drive that fast. He said that he was really tired after working two jobs, and was just trying to get home to his wife and kids. I asked for his license and insurance and told him to sit tight. I went back to my car and ran his information through the system. He had no warrants, so I sat and thought for a minute.I could write him a ticket for reckless driving, but the end result would be that he would have his license suspended, and that would put a hardship on his family if he could not get to work. It’s hard enough to pay the bills and put food on the table. If he could not pay the ticket, then a judge would put out a warrant for his arrest, and then daddy goes to jail while his kids watch and cry. It was in that moment that I decided to take a different approach.I went back up to his window and said the following: “I want you to relax and listen. I am not writing you a ticket tonight. I am not taking you to jail nor impounding your car.” The guy broke down into tears. I continued with, “What I have done is flagged your name, driver license number, and tag number in the system. For the next 6 months, you have to be the best driver on the road. If you get stopped for any reason, that officer will see that red flag and can immediately arrest you. Do you understand?” He was so grateful and repeatedly apologized for his speeding. He swore up and down that he would never do something so stupid again.Here’s the kicker…my flagging his information in the state system was a lie! We can’t actually do that. However, that’s not the point.The officers that heard me initially on the radio eventually caught up to me and asked about the incident. When I told them what I did, some of them said they would have written that ticket so fast it would set the paper on fire. To which I replied, “Yes, but what do you think serves the greater good in society? Causing someone to lose household income as well as their license, or making them a much safer driver for the next 6 months? I am a police officer, not a revenue officer.”Addendum: some have asked me how I came about having this particular mindset as a police officer.
