Thinking like a compiler it basically means trying to structure your code to avoid branches in "the most likely" code path.If, for example, you have an API call that could fail but most likely won't if all things are working properly, do this:status = apicall(); if (status == OK)  {  ... } else {  ... } instead of this:status = apicall(); if (status != OK)  {  ... } else {  ... } But it has a high dependency on how the compiler might organize things. There appear to be ways you can give hints to the compiler (http://kerneltrap.org/node/4705). But I've never used that or thought I needed to.TL;DR: branches in any architecture are expensive and to be avoided if possible to gain performance. However, some compilers are good enough that for certain architectures they'll inject instructions into the after-branch pipeline that'll execute regardless of the branch result because they're in the pipe before its predictor throws anything out.

Transfer from one discipline to another (Dual to Single B.E. || B.E. to another B.E.) is difficult to a certain extent. As pointed in a different answer, 'vertical' transfer requires that you get a CGPA of above 9.5. To achieve such a score, you must make it to the top 10 in your batch.Now look at it this way, in order to make a 9.5+ cgpa, you need to get an A in most of your courses. Since, about 800 people will be doing the course together, A will be awarded to 70 people on an average. So rather than trying to make it to the top 10 of your batch, if you could manage to get within the top 60 (to be safe) for most of your courses, the transfer is well within reach.Since it is obvious that getting within the top 60 is relatively easy, now we'll work towards it. You must attend lectures regularly. Speaking from personal experience, you will be tempted to not attend lectures of a few courses particularly because of the timings or the way it is being taught. Now, it is not necessary that you attend such lectures since there exists an alternative: practice questions of the said course in your room or the library. Practice such courses the day before its respective tutorials (test or not, irrelevant) for an hour, and BAM! You get good grades. And yes, not having a laptop would be helpful.I haven't established the credibility of my answer yet. For all those who doubt it, I was a dualite in my first year and at the academic year's end, I had a CG good enough to get a transfer to Computer Science (single degree). I did not attend the lectures of a few courses like Maths I and II (I practiced these in my room, I din't understand anything in the lectures) and CP (I was good at C), but I did attend Gen Biology, Thermodynamics, Mech, Oscil & Waves and Electrical Sciences despite the timings being unfavourable.TL;DR- Branch Change is difficult but can be achieved with little planning.- Everyone (both dualites and single) can obtain a branch change with a good enough cgpa.- EI and EE have 3-4 courses different. Almost all of these different courses can be done as Open Electives.

The best and worst thing comes down to perspective.
