Click on an image to unblur it.Since Vatican officials are protected with diplomatic immunity none of them were held accountable or charged with anything so I’ll add a twist to my answer by naming two officials who were directly implicated but gotten away and got rewarded for their actions.You might have seen movie Spotlight and if you did you might remember Cardinal Bernard Francis Law who was the Archbishop of Boston and moved priests from parish to parish while they molested children.After he resigned he was "punished" with a transfer to Rome where he "was a member of six of the nine or ten Vatican congregations, and was even more influential as, being based in Rome, he could attend all the meetings, unlike cardinals based in other countries"(wiki)He lives on $12k/month allowance in Rome.“Law was considered to have played a role in the controversial decision by the church under Pope Francis’s predecessor, Pope Benedict, to investigate American nuns who were accused of promoting radical feminist ideas that were considered incompatible with the church. The investigation ended last year with a mild Vatican rebuke for the nuns.”[1]Less known than Law, but more influential was William Joseph Levada, Archbishop of Portland and San Francisco.Some might remember him from excellent documentary “Deliver us from Evil” by Amy J. Berg(highly recommend her other docu’s as well), a story of a pedophile priest Oliver O'Grady told by himself where Archbishop Levada did the same thing as, well, everyone else - moved a guy from city to city while he continued molesting children…As a reward for his impeccable service to the Church which included more than 100 cases of sexual abuse in his Archdiocese that lead to it becoming first U.S. Roman Catholic archdiocese to declare bankruptcy he was given a post of Prefect of Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith(yes, The Roman Inquisition) taking it over from Joe Ratzinger who went on to become Pope Benedict XVI.This made him basically 2nd in command in the Catholic Church.It is also important to say that most of these abuse cases and cover-ups happened while Pope John Paul II was Pope and Joseph Ratzinger his 2nd in command as head of Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith to which, by Cannon Law, all of these cases were to be reported to and prosecuted in secret under threat of excommunication.AFAIK there is no evidence of Ratzingers involvement but I find it extremely hard to believe that in the course of his 25 year service on that position he did not receive any reports or that no investigation has taken place, especially knowing the rigid pyramidal structure of Catholic Church operations and Fr.
