PDF Editor FAQ
“John” is the plainest name ever. It ensures that its bearer will only ever be referred to by his surname. Why would any parent name their son this?
Really? I have never called any of my students named John by their surname. John is the name of two of out greatest saints: St. John the Baptist, the cousin of Jesus, and, therefore the cousin of God, and the only saint except the Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, whose birthday is celebrated by the Church. Also St. John the disciple "whom Jesus loved" and to whose trust Christ gave his Mother. He is also the author of both a gospel and also the final book of the Bible. Then there are the saints: John Neumann, Bosco, Fisher, and the Popes. Then there are John Adams and John Quincy, John Glenn, John Kennedy, and John Wayne.I can imagine any rational parents naming their son, "John."
Are you uncomfortable saying "Merry Christmas" to people?
It's the only thing I say.Okay, not "the only", but as it pertains to this particular holiday, I say, "Merry Christmas" and "Merry fucking Christmas, now go fuck yourself, fuckers!" To my atheist friends (and some theists just to send them into fits of panic), I may say, "Happy Witches Solstice, ALL HAIL SATAN AND HIS GLORIOUS MINIONS!" or "Happy Saturnalia!" (Ariel, Erica <——the dark lord's minions)It's Christmas. Now, as it pertains to the Chosen People, I say "Happy [gutoral "H"] H/CHanukkah" or somesuch. When I remember when it's time to say a kind greeting to my Hindu and Muslim friends, I tender or utter the appropriate "Happy XYZ" holiday, ("Ramadan Mubarak!").For those panicking about "Happy Holidays", remember: it was Christians who started saying that around 1900 because back when Christians celebrated Christmas as a religious holiday, it was too difficult to send a warm greeting for every damned day of the season, "Merry Christmas, Happy St. Stephen's Day, Happy St. John's Day, Merry Holy Innocents' Day, Happy St. Thomas Becket's Day, Bless your Holy Family Day, Happy New Year, Happy St. Sylvester's Day, A Joyous Solemnity of Mary Day, Rejoice it's Basil the Great and Gregory Nazianzen Day, Hallelujah it's Holy Name of Jesus Day, Happy St. Elizabeth Ann Seton's Day, Happy St. John Neumann's Day . . . AND Happy Holy Epiphany, Day of the Magi!. . . oh, fuck this shit. Happy holidays now get the fuck out of my face, I've got six screaming kids in the back of the horse and buggy and I'm shitting blood from typhoid."
What are the best private elementary schools in Columbia, South Carolina? What were your experiences with them?
In NE Columbia it’s pretty much St. John Neumann or nothing. However, it’s a very good school and more affordable than most others. They have a good program for advanced students where they are kept with their normal classmates for the majority of the time, and go to special sessions with a dedicated teacher for more challenging work. It would be nice if they had more resources like music instruction and sports after school. But that all costs $.
