All the successful models that I know started early in their teens. But it really depends on the type of modeling that you want to get into.For example if you want to get into high end fashion modeling, you might want to start ASAP. Regardless of how great you are, or will become, there will always be someone else that can be a better fit for that shoot.As in everything else, persistence is the key. And you have to be focused and remain positive.Your attitude will get you farther. I know because when I had my office in Hollywood, I was surrounded by the fashion and entertainment industry. There are tens of thousands of pretty faces in LA, most will never make it. Not because they cannot, but because they set mental roadblocks for themselves.

The Film[1]EDIT: I have also seen some terrible representation by, in these cases, women who may or may not be of Native heritage yet claim some ancestry or connection that then apparently allows them to dress up in mish-mashes of “Native Inspired” fashions. That is an indicator that the people doing this really have no connection to a Native community that would allow them, tell them its OK, to go out and “represent” in that manner. Representation is the term. Appropriation comes next if its done badly or ignorantly or thoughtlessly. After 100 years of Hollywood “representation” you have to wonder if its worth all the trouble because its often still not done right. “Authenticity” is the next term relevant. Does authenticity make a bad project good? We constantly see the “colonizer” or the “influencer” or the “cultural appropriator” or even YELP reviewer, make allegedly expert comments on Authenticity, when their own experience with that particular culture is just that, one little or minor experience that may be in itself a “show put on for tourists”. Or a recipe used for tourists, lacking the proper spices or ingredients. That is colonization, colonialism and capitalism or marketing, that everything in the world is judged thru that “consumer check list” or that “ colonizing gaze.”

The answer is *probably* the professional MMA fighter. I’ve read some articles about Bruce Lee written by people like Chuck Norris who knew him in real life, sparred with him, and respected him quite a bit. Chuck was willing to play a bad guy who loses for Bruce which was unprecedented since Chuck is famous for wanting to always play the good guy, and having his skills be remembered as a force for good, but he “took a dive” for Bruce for the cameras, and was willing to do it again for the unfinished “Game Of Death” although his scenes were never shot.According to Chuck, Bruce Lee *COULD* have been a great fighter if he had re-trained himself extensively, and probably even dominated the way Chuck did for a while, he did have the talent to do so. The thing is though that Bruce Lee was a “Kata Master” and everything from the way he moved to the way he sculpted his body was designed specifically to look good, not to be effective in actual fighting. His style Jeet Kune Do, while amazing, was largely a hypothetical style designed by combining elements of other styles to create a system that could adapt to anything, the movie “Game Of Death” was largely built around illustrating this, as the idea was that on each floor of a pagoda Bruce had to climb he would face an expert martial artist, and then overcome him by exploiting a weakness in his opponent’s style, making the point over time that he was more versatile than anyone. The thing was though that according to Chuck, who actually studied numerous martial artists, while effective, it was a sort of “textbook” style that looks awesome, and should be that good, but like anything it comes down to whomever is using it. It has been a long time since I read this, and I might not remember it correctly, but this is what I took away from it.At any rate, since they did spar, I guess it’s in theory possible for Bruce to come out on top against the world karate champion, but I got the impression that Chuck, who fought and defeated the best in the world at the time, felt that Bruce could not ultimately do the same things he did unless he re-trained specifically from fighting. Thus taking the opinion of a competitive fighter (from what I remember) I am going to say the professional guy (presumably world class, not some bum for the purposes of this discussion) will probably beat Bruce most times simply due to being a real fighter, as opposed to Bruce who is more of a professional showboat who looks pretty.For those that read this far, one thing I will point out is that a good number of movie martial arts guys, are not really skilled martial artists, and those that are oftentimes don’t actually use a lot of real combat stuff in their films, as the idea is to look good for the camera. In reality a lot of the people who do these movies are actually dancers, and you’d be shocked to know how many Chinese action stars actually learned most of their stuff from the Peking Ballet. A good example of someone who has a reputation based on film as a deadly martial artist but actually is not one is Michelle Yeoh, if you get bored go do some reading on her and check her biography. She was literally a pageant queen (multiple award winner) with a strong background in dance. People oftentimes bring her up as an example of how deadly a woman could be, etc… but she’s in reality a terrible example because nothing she does in any of her movies is real, it just looks good on camera… she’s dancing, not doing kung-fu. Once I learned this I started to laugh when I realized how many Vs. discussions she shows up in pitting her against real martial artists and MMA fighters and such… it’s a vaguely similar case with Bruce Lee, though not quite as mismatched, as Bruce was a Kata Master, not a dancer, he knew real martial arts, but his specialty was display, not combat effectiveness.
