What was your most rewarding moment as a professor/teacher?

I was head TA in Mining Massive Data Sets this quarter, and all twelve of my TAs received at least a 4/5 on their teaching evaluations (under “effectiveness of instruction”). This was important to me because I put a lot of work into making my team awesome. When I taught Design and Analysis of Algorithms, one of my students sent me an unsolicited letter of recommendation. I’m not sure what I’d use it for, but it was very sweet of him. This year I referred one of my students to Facebook, and she’s interning there this summer. She was special because she came up with a really nice counterexample that broke an algorithm in our solution sets. I also wrote letters of recommendation for four non-degree-seeking students, and at least two of them got into Stanford for a master’s degree. I thought they were exceptional people, so I was proud to see them get in.It was nice watching people on the internet enjoy my lecture notes.

How can I make sure I get into TUM (Technical University of Munich)?

There are a lot of factors and the TUM admission committee has a final say. However, the evaluation criteria are transparent and we can try our best to improve our profiles. The following are taken into consideration for the evaluation of your application.AcademicsLetter of recommendationLetter of Motivation.Based on them you will be given a score out of 100, where 55 points are given for academics, 20 points for Letter of motivation, and 25 points for two letters of recommendation. I would like to brief you more about each one.Academics:The academics part is further split into two parts. Your grade would be converted to german grade (out of 4, 1 being highest, 4 being lowest) and given points based on that out of 25. Rest 30 points are given based on your grades on mathematics and subjects relevant to the course you are applying for. Thus, CGPA and having good overall grades are very important.Letter of recommendation:TUM generally asks for two letters of recommendation. I would suggest taking them from two professors. The following points will help you to get a good recommendation letter.Make sure to mention rank either by mentioning rank explicitly or by telling you belonged to a particular percentage of rank holders in your department. Getting a rank certificate too will be much useful. (For instance, the student belong to the top 10% rank holders of department)Describe subjects, unique achievements, contributions, etc.Describe the relationship between you and your professor, subjects handled, etc. You can make them general so that you can use them to apply for various colleges. The letter of Motivation is given 20 points. Your achievements, projects, learnings, internships, etc are linked and reflected only through this. Make sure you cover the below points in the Letter of motivationYour academic background,Projects, internships, etc.Why TUM, Why GermanyWhat are your goals, how the course will help you and link all of them together? With these points, you understood that more weightage should be given to the motivation and reason part rather than highlighting each and every part which is already mentioned in your CV. Coming to CV, make sure it's either with a boxed format (As preferred by top B schools) or Europass formats. So, the first-round is evaluated for 100 points (based on the above points) and if you score more than 95 you will be selected directly and if you score less than 75, you will be rejected. If you score in between you will be selected for the second round. The second round consists of an interview of 20–30 minutes. Your motivation and basic questions from both mechanical and electrical engineering will be asked. Answering 70–80% of questions may yield higher chances to get an admission. Thus by doing the below you can boost your chances to get into TUM.Good CGPA/ subject grades.Genuine motivation letters and recommendation letters. Equally important.Good CV (Remember, only your content can make a CV good, not any writer or digital creator). Make sure you stick on just to one page!!Try to do internships and take up more than one project during your final year!I didn’t have any German knowledge. German language knowledge is not required for application, but by the end of the course, you should be proficient in the German language. If you have free time, start learning it- it's very important for survival, jobs, etc. depending on the place in Germany.IELTS/TOEFL etc are also not required, if your bachelors were taught in English and have proof for it, that's sufficient. I had my mark sheets/consolidated mark sheets stating the medium of instruction as English and acted as proof. However, if you don’t have any, you can get a separate medium of instruction certificate from your college/university.Note that learning german is not eligibility criteria for English taught programs and is just eligibility for German taught programs. They aren’t going to give you any more edge. You will be judged only with the three points mentioned above. The same applies to English tests. They are just for eligibility, they wouldn’t be considered for evaluation, and thus as long as you meet minimum requirements (6.5 in case of TUM) that’s fine. Having more score doesn’t give you an edge.I am always open to help. All the best!Sairam.

Is 7.5 CGPA enough for applying masters in Germany?

Yes!It is enough for applying masters in Germany at most of the universities but you may found it is not sufficient for top universities where medium of instruction is particularly in English. With CGPA 7.5 you will able to get admit at many good universities. However, you can increase your prospects for admission by working on following aspects :Increasing German language proficiencyOutstanding letter of motivationResumeLetter of RecommendationsIELTS or TOEFLGRE or GATEBy doing better in all above factors, you will be able to get admission at your choice of university.

Used the service once, without knowing that there was a subscription charge. All I needed was a pro forma lease agreement. It was extremely easy to do, step by step, and to print out. But once i was ready to download it, there was the subscription charge, to be cancelled within 7 days. Great. I gave my payment info, printed the document, and cancelled my subscription. I absolutely would continue using the service if I would need more than one document in 25 years. Top notch. If only they would stop bombarding me with e-mails.
