What is your best negotiating trick?

Chennai 2017After attending the techfest of IIT madras me and my 2 friends went to richie street for shopping. I just wanted to buy some electronic goods .We 2 were malayalees and one was tamilian and my hometown was PALAKKAD (neighboring district of tamilnadu) so I was able to handle Tamil well .I entered to a complex that had a bunch of electronic shops .I asked the price of desired item in one of the store .I : Anna antha xyz product evlo ( brother what's the price of that xyz product )Shop keeper: 6500 rsI : okay nna. Apram varen ( okay bro . I will come back later )SK: Why later? buy it now otherwise it will be out of Stock.I : online le kammiya than kaattdh. Athanalathaan………….. ( I will get it from an online shop for a better price )SK : Thambi antha rate a konjam kaat. ( show me that deal in online )I showed him a deal in Amazon which was only for prime members and that also was a deal for another variant of that product .It was for 4299 in Amazon.SK : Thambi itha rate kk ellam thara mudiyath , engaluk tax rent ellam kattanumille ( I can't give you for this price because we want to pay the rent for shop and tax for product )I : lastla ungaluk evlo venum sollunga? ( say me the last rate that you can give )SK : 4700 /- LAST RATEI GAVE HIM THE MONEY AND BOUGHT THE PRODUCT .till now it is working fine .The actual price of product at Amazon was for 6399 .I saved around 1700 rs with a single trick. On the way back to velachery I found an old women ( I remembered my grandmother for a moment when I saw her ) sitting in foot path but not begging or asking anything to anyone . I asked her “sapteengala Amma” ( had your dinner ?) She replied “illa Thambi” ( no ) .I bought some food+biscuits for her .And my savings for that day not only filled my pocket but also filled my mind !Image source : google

How long would it take a native English speaker to learn a Dravidian language (e.g., Malayalam)?

by the name and profile picture Allison, you look like someone from America. I too am from America. Malayalam would take a loooong time to learn. But wit patience, you’ll master it. I am a malayali, and I still have not mastered it. Start learning online, first. After that, ask someone to help you. I am free to help you if you want (Definitely not a pro tho.) Getting taught by someone instead of taking an online course is better since, online resources use VERY formal words. I’ve made several quizlets, and a mermise (The links I’ll provide). Here are some tips:Grammar is pretty simple, almost the same as english,so I think you’ll master grammar fast.Malayalam has an enormous amount of dialects. And each person basically has 2 dialects (caste/religion,district). Kerala hindus have “standard” malayalam (If you go online, dad is acha, which is how hindus say it.) Nasrani (Syrian christian) have Syriac in their malayalam and use different words. (appa opposed to acha). Muslims have arabic in their malayalam and also use different term (uppa opposed to appa). For dialects, I would definitely say, stick to standard, but it would be cool to speak a specific dialect. (If you are going to learn a dialect, Kottayam and southern dialects besides Travancore would be easy. Thrissur dialect would also be useful but difficult, Northern dialects like Malapurram and Kannur are a bit hard to understand.)(Something I struggle with) Read malayalam chunk by chunk, not letter by letter. In English my name would be: Elvis George (Vowels and consonants) . My name in arabic would be الڤس جورج (Only constants,no vowels)Malayalam (and any indian language besides urdu, and to an extent dhivehi) on the other hand use a writing system called abuigda. Vowels can only be written in diacritics. എൽവിസ് ജോർജ് (consonants with diacritics) So reading my name wouldnt be: e-l-v-i-s g-e-o-r-g-e or ا-ل-ڤ-س ج -و-ر-جIts എ-ൽ-വി-സ് ജോ-ർ-ജ് . Also notice a consonant വ is Va not v.Malayalam has alot of weird sounds like ഋ ( ൃ) r̥, ഷ ṣa,ള ḷa, ഴ zha,റ ṟ. I suggest you learn these words using youtube. It’ll take time to pronounce these words, but you can do it!Many sounds in english have no equivalent in Malayalam. The letter z in malayalam would be represented by sa (സ). The letter w in malayalam would be represented as va (വ). However, പ്വ (the diacritic for va) can be pronounced as wa. Heaven in pronounced swargam (സ്വർഗ്ഗം),not svargam. There is no equivalent send for f,or r, or t. Only pha,ra,or ta. The chandrakala (്) is used to “kill” the letter (so pha ഫ becomes ഫ് ph.) However, the chandrakala, makes it a u/ŭ sound. Meaning, its not completely dead. I know, know, Its getting harder to to understand. The Chandrakala is pronounced differently, depending on dialect. The only letters that are completely “dead” are: ണ (nna) to ൺ (nn) , ന (na) to ൻ (n),ര (ra) to ർ (r),ല (la) to ൽ (l), and ള (ḷa ) to ൾ (l).There are 3 categories in the malayalam alphabet:Vowels:(Diacritics)Constants:Chilluaksharams:Conjunct consonants (are not consonants but, you’ll need them to read)(Trust me,there are many more. Another point is that, when a a letter is doubled, lets say വ, its not വ് വ ,its വ്വ. Some consonant diacritics are പ്ല (pla),ക്വ (kva/kwa),ക്യ (kya),and ക്ര (kra). One Final Point I will make is that malayalam is written in 3 scripts. The malayalam script is the most common. The Arabic script is used mostly in Madrasahs. This script was used by muslims. The Syriac script was abandoned entirely. This script was used by the syriac christians.Thank you for read and may God be with you! (A special shoutout for Kiron Krishnan (भगवतीश्वर शर्मन्) for the correction!)Quizlet:https://quizlet.com/Elvis_George_34/folders/66966101/sets (Check my profile in general)Mermise;Malayalam basics (Not totally done)
