What do you think about Arsenal signing Unai Emery as their new manager?

"Those who speak won't know and those who know won't speak"-Ivan Gazidis, Chief Executive, Arsenal on appointment of Unai as head coach. How the recruitment took place? The interview process for the coveted job of Arsenal manager began as soon as Arsene Wenger expressed his desire to leave at the end of this season. The board along with the chairman's consent (Sir Chips Keswick) formed a panel consisting of:1. Ivan Gazidis, Chief Executive Officer at Arsenal Football Club2. Sven Mislintat, Head of Recruitment at Arsenal Football Club (earlier at Borussia Dortmund)3. Raul Sanllehi, Head of Player Relations at Arsenal Football Club (earlier at FC Barcelona)to appoint a manager who could fill the big shoes of Arsene Wenger, someone who had been the manager since past 22 years. The interview process for the managers began in the middle of April last month and on May 10th Mr Unai had approached the panel to apply for the managerial position. His interview took place slightly late, actually after the panel had already shortlisted 8 candidates for the job on which the major favourite to get the job was Mikel Arteta.None of the candidates had withdrawn their request so reports suggesting Mikel Arteta withdrawing his application are crap. How Unai got the job?Unai had actually started analyzing Arsenal since they met in UCL last year (when he faced Arsene Wenger). Probably he had started preparing for the interview since then, as it wouldn’t have been possible to prepare on the level he had prepared for the interview in a few days). On the day of his interview he had come so prepared that the panel was surprised to find out about his in-depth knowledge of the present Arsenal squad, the strengths and weaknesses of each and every Arsenal player according to him, his tactics, mentality, character, personality and how the substitutes and the reserves can contribute for improvement of the squad. His interview went on for 3 hours and according to Unai, there was a chemistry between him and the panelists. After his interview the panelists gave their unanimous decision of putting their faith on him and submitted their detailed report to the Chairman and the Board where the final decision of appointing him as the head coach was approved. After his appointment, the short-listed managers were called and informed about the club’s decision and then Unai along with Ivan flew to Atlanta, USA to meet Kroenke Sports Enterprises Head, Stan Kroenke and his son Josh Kroenke, owners of the club. Why Unai?I won’t be highlighting his past achievements and records in past because I don’t care about history. I will speak only about the future. His past achievements are here (you can read it for reference):Unai Emery history: The new Arsenal manager’s top 10 career achievements to dateNow what lies ahead in the futureHere comes my detailed investigation ->1:First of all he had the courage to give the interview in English even though he isn’t fluent in it. During his interview he first heard the journalists’ question, got it translated from a translator and then replied in an English better than Harry Kane :P This shows he is ready to come out of his comfort zone and face tough situations.2:He called the Arsenal assignment as a “project.” I find this choice of word interesting because this shows he has a specific agenda which he has decided to follow and any modifications suggested by his staff would be welcome by him. Now whether it would be a long term project or a short term, that only time can tell.3:When an interviewer asked him about whether Jack Wilshere would be a part of his plan (as he is currently out of contract) his reply was he wanted to make a team in which every player believes in a collective effort to make the team move forward. So now it completely depends on Jack how he perceives this. It’s now on Jack not on Unai.4:His reply to a question by a journalist regarding on how he would build a team around Mesut Ozil, with him being the star player in Arsenal was very sharp and clearly showed he wasn’t happy with his performance and fitness this season. So Mesut Ozil would be kicked out of the comfort zone he has strolled into.5:His philosophy was correct when he expressed his desire that sometimes Arsenal would play counter, sometimes pressing and sometimes aggressive football all depending on the situation they are in and the opponent. This shows there would be flexibility in the style of Arsenal’s play and we won’t see the same side-ways passing in the attack and total capitulation in the defense in every game.6:Since he cares a lot about the organization and the formation the defense should improve of the team. If the organization of the team is his paramount importance then each and every team player would know the objectives they have to meet in the game else they may be benched in the next game given there is no Arsene anymore to save them.7:Some players who I think will receive a kick on their arse by Unai are-(Reasons are also mentioned):a. Mesut Ozil: Issues with Fitness, Commitment and Desire to excel.b. Hector Bellerin: Cannot cross the ball, doesn’t use pace to overlap, commitment.c. Shikodran Mustafi: Total disgrace, featured in Worst XI of the season, no efficiency in tackles, concentration issues.d. Petr Cech: No communication with defense. His goalkeeping standards have decreased. Concentration problem.e. Granit Xhaka: Loses possession of the ball very easily because of which we have conceded lots of goals this season, Cannot defend, Sloppy passing. These first team players would be put under immense pressure, under the new manager, who were horrible this season. Unai said he would individually meet each player so I guess he would discuss these issues with them personally and they may work on it and improve next season. 3/5 names are not even going for the FIFA WC so I guess the work may be in progress early.8:He may finally get some of his best players from other teams and would attract players from other teams to play under him even though we would compete under Europa League this season. Names like Steven Nzonzi, Bernd Leno, Julian Draxler, Danilo(Porto) to name a few. He knows where the problem with the current team is and may probably look in the transfer market to sort them9:There are reports that only 50 million pounds would be the transfer budget this season. Since he has operated under low budget in Sevilla and Valencia it would be interesting to see how he handles Arsenal in a crisis this time.10:From the others in the fray, I guess he was the best bet. The others were:a. Mikel Arteta has been assistant to Pep Guardiola for just one title-winning season so he lacks experience and shouldn’t even be considered.b. Carlo Ancelotti is very inconsistent. His wage demands are also very high. Frequent fallout with the board members is also very common for him.c. Luis Enrique: Commitment issues, in Barcelona he was completely dependent on Messi. Overrated- no doubt. Cannot speak English making it difficult to interact with the press.d. Patrick Viera: Lack of experience at the topmost level as he manages a MLS club.e. Thierry Henry: Lack of experience as he is second assistant manager of Belgium National team.f. Sam Allardyce: Cannot give top-4 UCL position and style of play is horrible. There may have been other managers who may have appeared for the interview but I guess the the board has decided the best possible solution.Unai said he doesn’t promise we would win, but he said the team would put maximum collective effort in each game of every competition.I think all football fans are proud of their team if they give their 100% irrespective of whether they lose or win.Credits to David Ornstein from BBC for breaking out the news before everyone as usual. There’s a saying:“When David Ornstein talks, all Arsenal fans listen.”I think it’s safe to believe we may fight for the title and glory next season with renewed and fresh resources. We could even be title contenders because I don’t see reasons why we shouldn’t be after appointment of Unai.Thank You for your time and patience to read my answer.I have written other answers on Arsenal too.Do give them a read if you liked this one :DRohit Bhardwaj's answer to What are the most misunderstood events in football?Rohit Bhardwaj's answer to Which world class football player made you personally think that he will never join the football club you support but eventually did so?Rohit Bhardwaj's answer to Who is the biggest waste of space at their club in football right now?Welcome to the team Unai :D

What is something that needs to be said?

What the HELL is happening with TEST CRICKET ???I thought that I should write a length about this after the recently concluded mammoth-one-sided series between India-Sri Lanka & the England-South Africa. But work pressure & other things kept me busy until finally, I couldn't take it anymore !!!Let me explain...Apart from the BIG THREE - Australia, India & England, no other nation is playing quality test cricket at the moment. There are ups & downs for all teams, but the scenario was NEVER like this.Let's look at the other countries playing tests :1. South Africa :The Proteas always had been a dominating side in the cricketing world, producing lots of quality players over the years. They were the only side who stood toe-to-toe with the best cricketing nation ever, Australia (not India, I'm sorry, but honest). Who could forget the South Africa-Australia series of 2014 with Mitchell "demon" Johnson at his peak, tearing away, sending half the RSA side to the hospital (Smith, Kallis, AB probably), with Dale Steyn coming back with his trademark pace & swing & the chainsaw celebration to give RSA their only victory in the 2nd test. When that RSA side toured England a month earlier, they seemed confused with their batting & laid back with their bowling. Only glimpses of the typical Proteas ruthlessness was shown by Kagiso Rabada, the young speedstar in the first two tests (I still beleive RSA was the better side in the 1st test at Lords, though the English won, thanks to some murky catching & Morkel's "no-balling").Anyways, but what the hell happened in the last two tests??? With the series hanging in balance & emboldened with the arrival of their batting main-stay Du Plessis, RSA suddenly "lost their way"...As if, in a hurry to go home, they showed no application & gifted their wickets to the wily Jimmy Anderson (who was definitely good, but did nothing new compared to the first two tests). Is this the Proteas side, we are accustomed to see???2. SrilankaA simple statistics - Apart from the Warne-Muralitharan trophy of 2016, they have won only 7 out of 29 tests played since 2015, including the fluke win over India in Galle.Their wins have come against Zimababwe (3), West Indies (2) & Bangladesh (1). They were steam-rolled by India (who also back in 2015, showed them "who's the boss"), trampled by New Zealand, out-classed by South-Africa & forced to share honours with the new-comers, Bangladesh. Even Zimbabwe (who would lose a test series against Saurashtra) gave them a run for money...Well done, ex-rhodesians !!!But, what happened to the never-ending line of spin-bowlers which the emerald-islanders somehow produced??? What happened to the Dharmasenas, the Chandanas even the Jayasuriyas (as a spin bowler), leave alone Muralitharan?Who are these Sandakans, Pereras, Pushpakumaras (who celebrated after somehow dismissing Rahane for 132 !!!)? What happened to the feistyness of the batters, the fearlessness - the Sidath Wettimuny who repeatedly hooked Botham en route his 190, when half the top order was lying in the hospital?Where are the cavalier Aravinda or the pragmatic Arjuna? Srilanka's best batsman today is the "all-rounder" Angelo Matthews who fitness is a concern.Come on boys... Buck up !!!It really pains me to see the ageing Herath toiling away with his limited repretoire, because the others are simply incapable of stemming the run-flow.3. New ZealandFor some reasons, I have always felt that the Black Caps play much less test cricket, rather much less opportunity is presented to them to showcase their skills. Nobody tours them; it's actually a fact that when their neighbours, the Aussies toured them in 2015, it was actually the third time in the last ELEVEN years. Given the "tight" schedule of international cricket, it's indeed a HUGE gap. In fact, the great Brendon Mccullum got to play his trans-tasman rival only thrice at home in his entire career (notwithstanding the Viv-esque 145 off 79 balls he scored in his last test match!).In fact, New Zealand also tours a little less compared to others. They are a pretty good side, but yet to fill up the void left by Mccullum. In Kane Williamson, they have an able captain & probably one of the best batsman in the world. They probably need to find a better replacement(of Mccullum) than Henry Nicholls. They are a productive fast-bowling unit. But, the crux is : they NEED to play more. The more they play, the more they will prosper, which is good for everybody.4. West IndiesI don't know why, whenever West Indies play test cricket, the "experts" inevitably compares them with their glorious predecessors, especially after a(nother) hapless performance.Lets get this straight - the team which has won only 6 tests in the last 4 years (two against Bangladesh), which was "huffed & puffed" by Kent(Sam Billings plays for them, you know !!!) in the 3-day practice match, DOES NOT deserve to be compared to the world-champions...This is the bitter truth. And especially when, the creme-de-la-creme of their side plays only T-20. I don't know what Mr.Clive Llyod is thinking, but the best side musst play test cricket, no matter what !!! Gayle, Lewis, Bravo, Simmons, Narine - such a waste of dear talent. And for your kind information, Alzarri Joseph is NOT Curtly Ambrose, no matter how tall he is. He has got talent, but he needs direction. Where were the senior guys when he was getting pummeled by Alistair Cook for more than six runs an over???Regarding batting, I think the Windies can "loan" a few guys from India or Australia to go & play for them, guys who are telented, but would never get to wear the national colours. Where the hell is Darren Bravo, their best batsman in the last 5 years, when they are in alien conditions?5. PakistanYes, they are playing well under limitations. They are a very talented bunch, they always have been. But now the big daddies (Younis Khan & Misbah) are gone. Lets see how the lovely technique of Asad Shafique, the strokemaking prowess of Babbar Azam & the resillience of the "Kawali-singer" Azhar Ali stands up for their otherwise fragile batting. The objective of the article is nothing...But, actually it pains to see such a glorious game going to waste...

What are the biggest trends from London Fashion Week?

Always the heart and soul of creativity, London Fashion Week’s beauty offerings were bursting with breathtaking, outside-the-box thinking. From dark lips and glitter eyeshadows to Sam McKnight’s intricately wild plaits and shell hair accessories at Ashish, there was plenty to find inspiration from at the spring/summer 2020 shows. Here are the five key beauty trends you need to know from London Fashion Week SS20:1. The trend: the new cat-eyeHalpern spring/summer 2020© Jamie StokerMatty Bovan spring/summer 2020© Copyright Jamie Stoker 2018. All Rights Reserved.Where we’ve seen it: Halpern, Molly Goddard, Ashish, Matty Bovan, Kiko KostadinovWhat you need to knowIt was only 10 years ago that Amy Winehouse set the standard for the bold, retro cat-eye, but that was a lifetime ago in fashion cycles. For spring/summer 20, the shape, the mood and the finish of this classic look are softer and curvier—mirroring the silhouettes of the clothes seen on the runway.“It is quite a defined graphic eye, but because it’s curved instead of angular, it’s less severe,” says makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench backstage at Halpern, where the eye was full of Diana Ross-style glitter, with deeply pigmented kohl liner. “The glitter makes it fun and gives it a party vibe, but it also diffuses the black and makes it softer,” adds Ffrench.Recreate the lookFor an even more undone application, opt for a cream shadow or crayon, which will let you build out the shape. You can even smudge the edges with your fingers.2. The trend: the comboErdem spring/summer 2020© Jamie StokerVictoria Beckham spring/summer 2020© Jamie StokerWhere we’ve seen it: Erdem, Victoria Beckham, Roland Mouret, PreenWhat you need to knowLess is more these days, with upcycling and conservation at the forefront of everyone’s minds. And doing more with less has become a beauty mantra too, as makeup artists take blush, bronzer and gloss to multitask across cheeks, lips and eyes.“We love using liquid bronzer on the cheeks and the lids, and pressing a similar shade just a bit into the centre of the lips because it’s a subtle way to keep a rush and flush without making the makeup too obvious,” legendary makeup artist Val Garland tells Vogue at Erdem. “We want it to look tea-stained, almost like a silent movie star on the screen.”Recreate the lookBronze hues work best when it comes to finding tones that can translate to multiple areas of the face.3. The trend: lip serviceMolly Goddard London Fashion Week 2019© GettyEmilia Wickstead London Fashion Week 2019© GettyWhere we’ve seen it: Marques’Almeida, Molly Goddard, Emilia Wickstead (select looks), Natasha ZinkoWhat you need to knowDark lipstick can incite extreme reactions: fear, joy, love, hate. This season, the beauty aesthetic is about facing your fashion fears. At Molly Goddard and Marques’Almeida, there were severely bold pouts with wine-red and gasoline-black tones. At Emilia Wickstead, looks became even more audacious as model Sam Rollinson’s mouth was covered in a creamy pistachio shade.Recreate the lookIn case you can’t quite commit to going green, opaque lavender is another option. This is about experimentation, enjoying yourself, and self-expression. “It’s why we love beauty—the fun and the drama,” says makeup guru Pat McGrath, perfectly summing up the mood.4. The trend: the rain checkHalpen spring/summer 2020© Jamie StokerChristopher Kane spring/summer 2020© Jamie StokerWhere we’ve seen it: David Koma, Margaret Howell, Roksanda, Halpern, Victoria Beckham, Christopher KaneWhat you need to knowThis season, London Fashion Week was blessed with sunny skies for once, but the city’s rainy reputation made it through to some mood boards. Slick, wet hair complete with comb grooves, shower-fresh side parts and even matted ends took over the runways. In typically British fashion, we just can’t stop thinking about the weather.Recreate the look“You shouldn’t be worried about breakage with a slicker or a brushed-back look,” hairstylist Sam McKnight tells Vogue. “If you are, it’s because you’re using the wrong brush. You need one with very soft bristles and if your hair is particularly delicate or textured, start first with a wide-tooth comb and then when you’ve gone through with that, go back with a softer brush.”5. The trend: wildernessSimone Rocha spring/summer 2020© Jamie StokerJW Anderson spring/summer 2020© Jamie StokerWhere we’ve seen it: JW Anderson, Ashish, Bora Aksu, Simone RochaWhat you need to knowThere is a freedom and whimsical feel to the beauty in London this season, and the cowgirl-esque finish of chunky, symmetrical plaits at Bora Aksu and Sam McKnight’s accessorised braids and knots perfectly summed up the mood. At Simone Rocha, this wild and untamed aesthetic was seen in straw headpieces woven into models’ hair and wren feathers painted on their foreheads. At JW Anderson, models with longer hair wore it free-flowing down their backs with little-to-no product.Recreate the lookThe love for accessorising hair continues with raffia and shells coming out to play, but loose, wild and unadorned hair is just as in keeping with this super-wearable aesthetic.source : www.vogue.in
