Best of all coordinate them to buy it in the same hour.And if there is one thing these QAnon nutcases can actually do, it’s push buttons on the internet. They’re not much good at anything else, but boy howdy! It’s like Skinner’s pigeons when they get a red button in their sights.Let’s just see how long the “boom” lasts before we hail the end of the universe as we know it. I’m betting in a week, a month tops, it’ll be down at #1,238,221.Now, I could be wrong, because there might be enough people curious about the raving going on to keep it in the top 100, but I kinda doubt it.

Then the people at HowStuffWorks did this analysis, which shows that it sold 500 million copies on its own over the course of its history.So I’m going with that one. Which, if you haven’t read it, is amazing and easily stands the test of the 400+ years since it was published.EDIT:A number of readers have pointed out in the comments that I didn’t take into account the Quran. That was on purpose, because I was specifically trying to avoid religious texts (which are, of course, more widely distributed than anything else). So here you go - the best source I could find on Quran distribution puts it at 3 billion copies (and puts the King James Bible, the most popular variant, at 2.5 billion copies). If I looked at all Bible variants, I’d come up with a number similar to the one cited at the top of this article of 3.9 billion, and I’ve seen sources that claim as many as 6 billion distributed. At this point, many Muslims would point out that the Quran has not been changed since the time of Muḥammad versus the many variants of the Bible. I can find evidence counter to this, but it’s all on Christian sites (many of them zealots), and I don’t see a reliable site that can counter this claim. So, sure, I can see an argument that the Quran is the most-sold book of all time. I’m still interested in non-religious texts for this answer, but it was definitely an omission in my original answer that I should have addressed.Second, there’s a question about Indian mythology, and specifically Ramayana. I can only find records of about 1.5 million copies sold of that book. I’m surprised that no one asked about the Vedas, which is probably more widely known in India given that it’s central to Hinduism. Because it was handed down via the spoken word for so long, though, I can’t really find any sales numbers for it of note.Finally, no one asked about Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung (800 million copies), which I didn’t count because it was distributed as required reading rather than sold. But, yes, this would beat Don Quixote if you counted it.

You send agents to those stores to make many preorders of the book. This will stimulate the stores to order your book in bulk. On the week of release, you send agents to pick up those preorders, and make more purchases of the book until all the copies are gone.Voila! #1 NYT Bestseller for one week.The USA Today list is harder to manipulate because it covers bookstores across the country, but it can still be done.The Amazon list is actually easier, and has the potential to be for more than a week, because once your book is “trending,” Amazon will make sure more people see it. So timing the purchases so that your book goes to #1 for an hour will generate a lot of sales, and may keep it there for a while.Supposedly there have been quite a few people who have done this.
