A2AQuestion: Why did Stargate fade so fast after growing in a franchise that rivaled Star Trek in popularity?Why?MGM’s financial problems - The financial problems experienced by MGM played a large role in the failure of Stargate to thrive. The studio not only cancelled a third movie in the series of films that used the original series as canon, it didn’t support the final series during the original run (Stargate: Universe) very well, thus allowing its failure after two seasons. Had MGM not experienced its financial difficulties, it’s likely that the studio could put more funding behind the franchise and thus increased its popularity.The failure of the two Stargate: SG1 films - Neither of them were feature film quality and both told meaningless tales that did little to enhance the overall narrative of the franchise. Had they put in greater effort on the two films and had them become the feature films that the franchise needed, then it’s possible that things might have gone differently.Syfy Channel - Involving Syfy in your franchise is simply countdown to cancellation. Frankly, the network overexposes the series that it airs (it once aired THREE Stargate marathons in less than one calendar month), it does little to support them and it does little to support its programming’s fanbases. Syfy weakened Stargate and this didn’t help any part of the franchise to thrive.The franchise created few stars - Beyond Jason Momoa from Stargate: Atlantis, none of the actors on the series have been successful elsewhere. While Amanda Tapping has been a minor star in Canada and Robert Carlyle has been a sought after character actor for many years, none of the major performers in any part of the franchise have been successful elsewhere. There was never the impetus of a Stargate performer becoming successful elsewhere to attract his/her fans back to Stargate.The failure of Stargate: Universe - Like the Star Trek prequel Enterprise, SG: Universe simply didn’t attract core fans. Since those fans were necessary to be the foundation of its viewing audience, the series started off in trouble. By the time the series reached its second season (which was markedly improved) the ratings were still too low justify its renewal. Since the MGM was already having financial issues and had cancelled the third film at around the same time, Stargate was essentially hobbled and it has never recovered.

The short answer is that it's too controversial a topic to have in a show that those religions would consider blasphemous and it's too controversial a topic to have in countries where the people's culture of holy wars is / was a thing.Think about it, the show is fixated on tearing down false gods. Imagine how much of a problem that show would have faced if they tore down the big 3 religions especially shown to a country like Canada and America where they're all practised.These dieties are inferred to be part of Earth's mythological history by the fact that none of the main characters are devoutly religious and that they spend a lot of time helping the indoctrinated see the truth. It's in the subtext.In any case, most shows on tv don't talk about God, Allah, Jesus, Buddha, etc.

The HK MP5 family of machine pistols were also used for many years until recent replacement by the L119 CQB and the UCIW.
