The real reason is because accepting this aids means admitting that Venezuela is in a deep economical, political and humanitarian crisis, and yes, we are in a deep crisis; we are living the worst moment of our history. Socialism has destroyed our country in every way. Our biggest mistake as Venezuelans was to believe in Chavez and his ideas.The crisis here is so deep that every single day, there are little kids dying of common diseases like diarrhea or colds, because there isn’t medicine to treat them. Also, the older people are dying every day because they can’t find or pay for the treatments that they need. It is really painful to know there are trucks full of medicine and food for the poor people (the vast majority) on the border but Maduro’s regime doesn’t let them enter to Venezuela because he doesn’t want to look weak. What he said was “we don’t accept crumbs” because, of course, he is not the one dying of hunger or sickness.I see a lot of people defending Socialism, thinking that Venezuela can solve the problems itself. What these people don’t know is that this regime doesn’t want to solve the problems and they don’t care about the hunger or lack of medicine problems. They just want to stay in power as long as they can. Because they have committed so many crimes, they will go to jail or get killed as soon as this government falls.I know that Socialism can look good on paper, but in practice it is the worst nightmare a country can have. So many people’s dreams were destroyed by this ideology and so many people had to emigrate to other countries looking for a better future. I’ve seen so many families separated (including mine) that now is impossible for me to understand people defending a regime like this. Now some governments already do some of this. In Japan if you do not pass the tests for high school you are pretty much relegated to a 7/11 worker type job end of story. You may possibly be able to go back if you have the money but highly unlikely. Germany does this also but I think they may not saying for sure use aptitude tests to place you in an occupational field. What if you do not want to be a factory worker, tough shit. How about money do people want to make money? Does that happen under something like the Green New Deal look at it seriously. It does not. While it is not a communist system it is an extremely socialist system that would be devised and while there is a medium for goods and services because the cost would be high for these projects all the money would be sunk into it. Lets talk about some of these supposed socialists with three houses and lots of money. If that is you as a socialist I view you as nothing more than those old soviet men with the hats that ruled the soviet union with an iron fist and played in their money that they received from using there people as slaves.Nothing more than a criminal. America was living large, there was abundance, people lived a high quality of life, there was prosperity, consumerism made people want to buy more and amass material wealth, etc. For the majority, it was good. In the Cold War the left-wing was vilified. There was practically a ‘witch hunt’ on anyone who expressed let-wing ideologies. It was called ‘The Red Scare’.Whilst communism doesn’t represent socialism, in America they came to mean practically the same thing and anyone who believed in socialism was practically a ‘commie’ or a ‘red’. The upper echelons of society, the government, the wealthy, the business owners, did well to vilify the left-wing to ensure their dominance. They knew if that if socialist ideas started to catch on then their wealth and power was in danger - indeed, in countries like the UK, many industry owners were forced to hand over their companies to public ownership. That wasn’t an attractive idea for the wealthy enterprise owners.Nowadays, socialism is reviving itself in America. America is no longer experiencing the wealth and prosperity of the 50’s. Bernie Sanders’ campaign highlighted the economic realities of many voters and mobilised those thoughts against the ‘rich one percent’. For now, socialism is returning. With Trump in the picture, who knows where things could go. Could the nation get better? Or maybe he will worsen the situation and make socialism more attractive?
