Irritating and a hassle, as this was before buying online buying had free shipping or one/two day delivery.There was an option in the paperwork to go to a local nine west and exchange the shoes for the correct ones rather than mailing them back and waiting an endlessly long amount of time for the new ones. I’d seen the shoes I’d selected in a Nine West outlet at the local mall (after I’d ordered online), so I took the boxed shoes, receipt, paperwork, everything to the local store.The manager at the local Nine West outlet refused the exchange. They have the option to do so, it said in the paperwork. But the shoes were right there, and the manager wouldn’t give me a reason, just the answer no. He was dismissive, flapped his hands at me like a fly in the universal hand-motion for leave when I asked why he wouldn’t allow the exchange. Shoo, shoo. He told me maybe I shouldn’t buy things online if I don’t want to deal with sending them back if I don’t like them. Then laughed in my face, turned around and walked off.Jesus! It wasn’t a matter of not liking them, they were the wrong shoes. I had all the paperwork to substantiate this.Technically he did nothing wrong. But the way he spoke to me and laughed at me was humiliating. The combination of Nine West getting the order so wrong, and the manager’s behavior was enough. I sent the shoes back and requested a refund. I didn’t want the correct shoes anymore. I don’t remember if I got the refund, it was so long ago.I still think they have talented designers. I see their brand when I shop for shoes on Amazon and I always see something I would buy. But I’ve never purchased their shoes again despite how much I might love them.The combination of that manager and the rise of Amazon and Zappos meant I’ve never set foot in a brick and mortar shoe store again. I made a lot of money for a long time and bought many shoes, often expensive. But never Nine West again.
