He receives treatment for free, the school pay his sick pay while he recovers. His disabled son and his wife receive extensive care and benefits and financial relief. During his recovery, he lends his significant chemistry expertise to the art of baking. He uses his prowess to swiftly become a baking prodigy. He is selected as a contestant on The Great British Bake Off, where his plucky underdog story win the hearts and minds of the nation. He wins, he goes into remission, his notoriety attracts the attention of the scientific community. He opens a small restaurant in his hometown, his signature dish wins him a Michelin star, and a Nobel prize, for its exquisite taste, and for exemplifying his work into Ultra rapid anaerobic protein metabolising exothermic yeasts, which yielded a dish that rose and cooked in the mouth, while being gluten free by the time you swallow. It’s called Breaking BreadOr Baking BadYeah, that wouldn’t be white knuckle TV. The original Breaking Bad only works because the backbone of the show is the idea that a state-employed chemistry teacher having to start a lethal, drug production enterprise, or die of untreated cancer in the wealthiest nation on Earth, is considered reasonable. U.S citizens watch it and nod. Yup, makes sense, you gotta do what you gotta do, play to your strengths. The rest of the world watches it with bafflement.

I am one of those Americans who moved out of the US. After serving 11 years as an active duty Sailor, I made the decision for a multitude of reasons. I got tired of having everyone's religion and sexuality shoved down my throat every time I turned on the television or read a newspaper. I got tired of living with the fear that me or my wife and children could get shot in any place at any time. I got tired of the underfunded public education system. I hated that encouraging someone to get some exercise and eat right because they are dangerously obese is considered "body shaming" and being fat, lazy and ignorant is completely acceptable. I was sickened that corrupt, unethical businessmen like Donald Trump can be head of state. That you can sue someone because you melted your vagina together with hot coffee when you stupidly put a HOT CUP OF COFFEE between your legs while driving and kids can sue their parents for Christmas presents. I was disgusted of how high the homeless, unemployment and poverty levels were (because of a corrupted money hungry and corporate owned government system). I hated how all insurance had a huge price but very low coverage and medications were overpriced. I got tired of the thousands of different genders and sexual affiliations and how everyone is too open about sexuality.There were just way too many instances involving drug problems, gun problems, mass incidents of sex crimes, crimes against children, murders, financial scams, extreme government corruption, capitalism, severe obesity, mass health problems, over prescribing of medications, overpriced low coverage private insurance, corporate owned pharmaceuticals and healthy whole foods are overpriced or unavailable. The population was divided over religion, race, political affiliation and sexuality to the point that America can’t function as a society. And worst of all, the people fail to realize that they have been had because it is the people in political power who profit from all of this and make damn sure they keep people divided so they won’t notice the corruption that is right in their face.I left for the safety and benefit of my children. Because we left, I now have a higher paying job with a retirement plan and full coverage heath insurance for my whole family not to mention bonuses and paid company vacations. My children are getting a better education in a public school here than they would in any private school in the US. Guns are illegal and breaking the law will be followed by severe consequences as the law is cut and dry, no lawyer on earth can save you. The rich pay more in taxes than the middle class and poor. Politicians are elected by the people (not the ELC or some other fashion that keeps the rich man in power) and politicians are held accountable for what they do (or don’t do). They are also not over paid nor are their benefits too over the top. Health insurance is government operated and medical services for children and the elderly are free. Medications are inexpensive. Violent crimes are very rare and when one takes place, it is national news. Basically, unlike when we lived in the US, we are safe, secure and happy. In the US, even when I was Active Duty Military, we were broke, in danger and very unhappy.We did not leave because we have a superiority complex (as most people who leave the US don’t). We left because we wanted and deserved better.

I just read quite a few of the responses that this question has generated, and I have to admit that it really upset me. Since Ronnie Reagan we have been fed this story about the sanctity of capitalism and the evils of socialism. This tripe comes straight from the Boardrooms of Wall Street and has totally obscured the fact that large corporations are interested in profit only. They do not care about their workers, the consumers, or the nation they originate in.We have allowed these bloodsuckers to demonize labor unions, enact right to work laws, overly influence elections on every level, and procure tax breaks that the average citizen cannot imagine. What is worse is that they have convinced a large segment of the population that all this is good for the country. Well….no! It isn't.You have enslaved the middle class by paying them a salary that just barely meets the minimum standard of living while paying management and stockholders exorbitant salaries and benefits. You milked the government coffers whenever the opportunity presented itself and have totally distorted the image Adam Smith presented of capitalism.You own this government and most of the right wing politicians. You are responsible for the abuses we are subjecting the environment to. You have to take responsibility for the self serving cabinet that has stripped regulations that were designed to promote fair competition and address environmental issues. You are responsible for electing a Congress that refuses to address gun control. You have allowed the Banks to prosper on the backs of college students while encouraging people to spend beyond their means. You are responsible for the wars this country has fought for the last 50 years that has caused the deaths of tens of thousands of young Americans just so the military/industrial complex or the oil interests could make more money.All of this and much more rests at the feet of American corporations who do not care who they hurt just so long as the bottom line shows strong steady growth. Well…congratulations. You have what you want. I fully expect to be thoroughly chastised for this and called everything you can think of. The damage has been done, and I am old enough that it really does not matter to me. Count your money. Show off your trophy wives. Trade in your Ferrari for a new Lamborghini. Pad your offshore accounts. It will not matter once you are gone.Also, do not forget, Donald Trump is on you. All of this insanity is what your money bought. Maybe, just maybe, you will have buyer's remorse and actually decide to be Americans. Proud patriotic Americans who are willing to remember to ask what they can do for their country instead of only worrying about how much damn money they have.
