PDF Editor FAQ

What is a good example of "extreme rationalism"?

Knowledge is the awareness of things that are true.Things that are true are known to be true because they can be shown to be logically sound and valid.Logic is a consequential procedure. B follows A according to some rule of inference. If a rule of inference is not known, then a logic cannot operate accordingly.Logics cannot verify their own rules of inference, since those rules would be employed in the verification. This is similar in concept to a judge presiding over his or her own trial. The verdict cannot be considered to have any applicable objectivity. Thus, the soundness and validity of the sentence ‘logic indicates truth’ cannot be demonstrated logically and therefore the implications of logic in general cannot be known to be true in any way that has any implications beyond arbitrary triviality.Since knowledge is the awareness of things that are true (it cannot be belief in things that are not) we must therefore conclude that, rationally, knowledge does not exist - and yet we can know that the statement ‘no knowledge is necessarily true’ is necessarily true.In conclusion, truth is found in paradox, revealed in irony. This is how we decide states of affairs.Socrates is not known to have said this. Obviously, whoever said it wasn’t wise.

What movies were marketed in a very misleading way, making the audience expect something different from what was presented?

Legally Blonde.Disclaimer: this is a rant. I have wanted to rant about this movie for a long time. For those who love this movie, I hope you're not offended. It was marketed as an inspiring story — a girl, after being abandoned by her boyfriend for presumed inferior intellectuality, worked hard to attend the same school with the guy and later did even better than him.I've heard a lot of people say it's a “truly inspiring” movie. “It shows Elle Wood’s determination, and her refusal of fitting into a stereotype!” I've come across quotes like this:“Try to live every day like Elle Woods after Warned told her she wasn't smart enough for law school.”“In Legally Blonde, Elle Woods won her case because she was true to herself and dressed cute.”Bullshit. It's not inspiring at all. It makes me irritated as fuck. It's a fucking Mary Sue.Let me analyze in detail, from the perspective of a law school applicant and a current law student in the real world.First, dumping someone because she's blonde or too good-looking doesn't really make sense to me.Maybe Warner wanted to use marriage as a boost for his future career. Well, I think I kind of understand him. Still, I think the dialogue here is stupid as fuck.Second and also what irritates me the most, it's impossible to raise your LSAT score from 143 to 179 in fucking two weeks!Sure, LSAT is one of the most learnable tests. But it's also known as the “Everest of All Standardized Tests.” [1][1][1][1] With enough practice, it's definitely possible to raise your score from 143 to 179, but NOT IN TWO WEEKS. At least several months’ intensive practice.I was studying for the LSAT when I saw this. Back then, I was going through a grueling burnout period — I consistently got 165–168 on practice tests. I got so angry here that I paused this movie and gave it one star on IMDB.I was watching this movie with a fellow applicant who scored 175 on LSAT after almost a year's practice. She didn't have any offers at that point. We were both stressed out. She burst into tears as this dialogue took place between Warner and Elle Woods.“What? Like it's hard?”I was like: THIS IS A DIRECT HUMILIATION TO HARVARD LAW SCHOOL!!!I didn't get onto Harvard. I didn't even bother to apply. When I saw this — FUUUUUCK!!(*By the way, that fellow applicant received Harvard Law School offer soon after)Let's look at her application — a video full of bullshit. It was a video featured herself wearing pink swimsuit, showing boobs, and throwing around legal jargons in a pretentious way.I almost puked here.HOLY FUCK! She got admitted! Now, in order to show how special, true-to-herself and lively Elle Woods is, the movie portrayed other law students as super nerds — more accurately, aesthetically challenged middle-aged people with Alzheimer's Disease.Elle Woods was cold called on the first day and she didn't do the readings. This is really cliche. The exact same thing happened in The Paper Chase and How to Get Away With Murder. In reality, even if the student being called upon hasn't done the reading, s/he can at least bullshit something to look less awkward.*Sigh* speaking of cold call, I didn't perform much better than Elle Woods. I had very tough professors who “interrogated” me just like how Socrates did in The Republic. In the following scenes, the director further shows how lovely Elle Woods is, in contrast to regular law students. She was invited to a costume party, and dressed like below. The regular law students, however, looked like scholars who had locked themselves in ivory tower for the entire life.To be honest, I think our law school’s Halloween costume party is the best. Everyone is super creative. Elle Woods wouldn't even stand out with outfits like this.Elle Woods, being a 4.0 student from UCLA, had no idea how to write a resume properly. Anyone with a bit of common sense would not print their resume with scented pink paper.Aside from Harvard Law, this movie has subtly humiliated UCLA as well. I know UCLA is known as some sort of party school, but still everyone has to have a bit of common sense. For some reason, Elle Woods got the internship with her pink, scented resume. Then, she was involved in a homicide case as a first-year law student intern. Several problems from here:There is no way a student intern would be allowed to visit the client in jail alone and talk in private. It is totally illogical that Brooke Windham withheld her alibi which potentially would get her acquitted.Elle Woods, as an intern, insisted on keeping client's crucial information as a secret. This is contradictory to professional ethics, and very poor teamwork. In such a conservative setting, Elle Woods dressed up like this and no supervisor has informed her of courtroom dress code. I guess this is common sense too — better overdressed than underdressed, and better dress conservatively than creatively.Plus, if Elle Woods had only completed one semester’s study, she was not qualified to represent clients in court independently. Most states require at least three semesters’ study before a student can appear in court.Besides, terrible argument. It seems she had argued a very high-profile case. Well, the screenwriters were very good at daydreaming.Somehow, Elle Woods had the ambition to be a partner at a law firm by the age of 30. The vast majority of students graduate from law school at least at the age of 25. Even extremely competent junior associates at a law firm have a hard time being made partner, let alone such a naive girl who lacks common sense.Throughout the movie, we barely saw Elle Woods studying, and she somehow became the valedictorian of Harvard Law School.Personally, I think she's talking bullshit again.Maybe I'm overly cynical. If you get into law school mainly because of your passion, think twice. Law school is a place where your passion may get killed.First impression may not be correct, but usually employers won't spare their money to give you a second chance if you don't make a good first impression.By the end of the movie, the screenwriter had to emphasize that Warner did not get a job.Unless he had Character & Fitness issue, or he would only work for Wachtell or Cravath, it's pretty damn hard for a Harvard Law graduate to be unemployed, even if you end up with bottom grades. There are many options — small/mid/big law firms, state/federal clerkships, public interest, etc.I guess I've taken the movie too seriously. But I just find it annoying that a lot of comments say this movie is inspirational. It's not. It's a fucking Mary Sue.Footnotes[1] How Hard Is The LSAT, Really? - LawSchooli[1] How Hard Is The LSAT, Really? - LawSchooli[1] How Hard Is The LSAT, Really? - LawSchooli[1] How Hard Is The LSAT, Really? - LawSchooli

Is it right for a nurse to ask if the patient is unemployed?

What does employment status have to do with preparing a nursing or medical care plan? I dont think it is right For a nurse to ask. A patient will dis the need for a sick certifocate for work if they are employed other than that I don't see what unemployment has to do with the nurse. We do sometimes ask ptient occupation because there may be elements of risk to the patients health associated with their job (chemicals, heavy lifting etc.) and the treating team may wish to advise the patient to adjust some aspects of their life. If none of these are applicable the nurse is being nosey!!
