My sponsored 18-year-old niece (Philippines) was interviewed and passed she applied for a two-year community college in California.That was our suggestion since we thought her transition to the American lifestyle and college system would be easier at a smaller school.She was asked what her father did for a living. “A Farmer. He doesn’t work the fields, but manages the family property, and ‘sharecrops’ the land”.She was asked about why the community college? She replied; “An easier transition and the college has a program “A.A. and Transfer” - as many as 70 units are transferable to the State University system and after two or three years I can transfer and enter as a 3rd-year student.”She was asked where the College is located, “Less than 2km from my Aunt’s house.”She was asked about the financial arrangements:I made her an indexed folder with sections for Academic:- (Diploma, Honors Certificate, TOEFL Score page) Financial:- (A copy of the required Notarized Affidavit of support for the College, and an I-134, plus the first 2 pages of our tax return. ) There were other sections with a photo of her family - 8 Brothers and sisters, photos of their house, a picture from graduation with her mother and father.I knew the consular official was not going to look at all this stuff, but I felt my niece would appear and feel confident having the documents with her. Just in case if things got 'sticky' she could refer to something.When asked about the financial arrangements she said: “Oh, I have an affidavit for the College here”, she then opened the folder to the page and slipped it to the consul. The consul glanced at the Notarized copy and flipped thru the other pages.As she returned the folder the consul asked what she will do after graduation. My niece replied; “I’m coming back home. First of all, someone else’s bank statements are worthless. There is a form to guaranty financial support. FROM USCIS:“An affidavit of support is a document an individual signs to accept financial responsibility for another person, usually a relative, who is coming to the United States to live permanently. The person who signs the affidavit of support becomes the sponsor of the relative (or other individual) coming to live in the United States. The sponsor is usually the petitioner of an immigrant petition for a family member.An affidavit of support is legally enforceable; the sponsor's responsibility usually lasts until the family member or other individual either becomes a U.S. citizen, or can be credited with 40 quarters of work (usually 10 years).The law concerning affidavits of support is found in Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) sections 212(a)(4) and 213A. The provisions are codified in Title 8 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) at 8 CFR 213a.”When you read the requirements, note that your sponsor must be someone who can be held legally responsible, which means that their funds must be in a bank that the US government can attach if your fail to pay your bills.There is a big risk to using this form, however. Note that it says “….who is coming to the United States to live permanently.” I presume you are seeking an F-1 visa, which is often denied because it is suspected that the “student” is seeking a way to enter the US and never leave. An affidavit of support from someone in the USA suggests they might be someone who helps you stay in the USA in violation of your visa. You must avoid making any such suggestion and PROVE that you have strong ties to your home such that you would never overstay your visa.I recommend you read the appropriate materials on the USCIS web site. Quora is no place to get such important information.

Credit Card Transactions- This could show that you have the capacity to buy and the capacity to pay for them on time. You may also show your credit card limit. But please do this only when you have a good credit standing with your bank.6. Land/Condominium Titles, Investments, Car Registration, Business Permits, Business Permits for Entrepreneurs- While this doesn’t prove any source of income, it could prove your deep rootedness and ties in the Philippines. You can submit this in addition to your Bank Statement/Bank Certificate.7. Enrollment Certificate for Students, Leave of Absence (if applicable), a copy of School ID, etc.- - For students, I suggest that you get your parents as a sponsor and submit their Affidavit of Support together with their financial documents.Hope this helps! :)
