PDF Editor FAQ

I was declined admission to Georgia Tech. I have a 1560 SAT score, a 34 ACT score and a 4.0 GPA. What else could I have done to get accepted?

We live in Georgia and have also seen some very puzzling admission’s decisions on the surface from GA Tech. The year my oldest daughter graduated, a male student from her high school was denied into Georgia Tech’s engineering program as a National Merit finalist, with a 36 ACT, and a top ranked student from her high school. However, I can’t tell you anything about his extracurriculars, essays, recommendations, etc. He went to Purdue freshman year, did extremely well there, and we hear was rejected from GA Tech a second time as a transfer student.Meanwhile, a few female students from their high school received admissions into the same program at GA Tech with comparatively inferior academic statistics.Takeaways:It’s possible there were factors beyond your control which impacted the decision: male versus female, what state you are from, intended major, race, etc. It’s holistic admissions, and you do not mention any extracurriculars, awards, recommendations, class rigor, nor essays. Georgia Tech is a top rated school and receives way more applications than available spots. It’s possible other parts of your application were not sufficient to set you apart from a sea of other students with similar academic statistics. It’s possible that was the case for the student from our local high school as well; we are not sure. The true story I like to tell in these types of situations is my husband was rejected from his top choice university, and went to his second choice. Fast forward through many years of hard work, and he was invited as an expert in his field to speak at the university who originally rejected him. This will not be the first nor last time you have a disappointment, so work hard and make it be GA Tech’s loss. You are clearly very bright and already accomplished - even when shaken up a bit, cream always rises to the top! Just don’t dwell on a relatively minor setback too long.Best of luck!

How was your IBPS PO Mains 2020 exam?

I reached the venue at around 7:30AM and after the biometric process I found myself sitting in front of the computer screen for an hour and yamning endlessly. Had the exam started 5 minutes late, I would have definitely fallen asleep.Anyways, here is what happened:-REASONING:- I am not that good with mains level puzzle so I relied heavily on critical reasoning and other miscellaneous questions. And as expected I found puzzles very tough and couldn't solve any of them. Ended up attempting 13 questions worth 16-18 marks.GA:- One of my strongest sections but I was a bit nervous after seeing what transpired in the SBI PO and RRB PO mains. I had prepared extensively for GA and it didn't go in vain. Attempted 36 questions. I am not sure about 3 questions, hoping rest are correct. But the best part is that none of the 40 questions were complete bouncer for me.English:- After that 30/30 performance in pre, I was confident going into the exam. Found it easy and attempted 31 questions worth 36 marks. I am hoping the accuracy is 100%.DI:- This subject has always eluded me. My long term nemesis. Robbed me of so many happy moments in the past(story for some other day). I practiced as much as I could but I knew on the D-Day I will panic and would want to run out of the room. That's exactly what happened. My emotions got over my mind and I panicked. Managed to attempt 4 questions worth 5 marks. I am hoping that the sectional cut off would follow the same pattern as of last few years and would stay below 4. If someone can give me some positive vibes about this then please comment. And please only positive ones as I don't want to get more upset. I need something to cheer me up as I am extremely worried.Descriptive:- I didn't explicitly practice for essays and letters. There were 3 letters to choose from. One was about a bank manager writing to his/her customer to inform about loan application rejection. One was about returning a mixer grinder. I don't remember the 3rd one. I chose the 1st one. There were 4 topics for essays. Topics were about Benefits of forests, Inflation and its effect on cost of living, pros and cons of Work from home. I wrote the inflation one as it was in my comfort zone. And I must say that interface for the descriptive paper is horrible and frustrating. Some random observations:- As it was my 1st mains level exam so I was expecting a rather peaceful environment but inviglators, both inside my lab and in the adjacent labs, made sure that I don't get one. Talking , shouting like we are in a fish market. Then a courageous candidate had to tell them to STFU and reminded them that it is an exam. Apart from that many candidates had to face system outages not once but twice which distracted others. Asking to go to toilet during the exam is treason because we are superhumans and can sit through 4 hours without peeing in midst of freezing February.I am worried and frustrated but trying to take some positives from my performance in GA and English as they are very important for RBI Grade B.EDIT:- As expected I missed the sectional cut off of QA by 3 marks. Overall 82.5 marks excluding descriptive.Reasoning:-13GA:-29.75English:- 34QA:- 5.75

What is your 'height' of SSC CGL preparation?

Having determined to clear UPSC i choose SSC as a backup plan but it had now become my full time plan. I was sceptic of not cracking UPSC in 1st attempt so i start preparing for SSC right after college. After my last graduation exam i come to my hometown and start preparing in full swing. The height of the preparation comes from the within, when you realize you have no other option.I started in June 2018 at that time CGL 18 is to be conducted from 26th July( but it end up being delayed 11 months) so i had roughly 2 months to start from scratch. With 2 months of time in hand i decided not to go for coaching(best decision ever) and start preparing on my own. Youtube is my saviour. At first i am very afraid of attempting mock test, in my first mock test i scored 94( in previous year of 2016) and even less in testbook made mock test.In those three months(June - August) i studied like never before Averaging 10–14 hours a day. But my preparation is haphazard, i never planned before studying. I make notes from every damn thing, download this, download that pdf, lecture, what not. I always scavenge for new materials without revising old ones.Being a morning person i wake up at around 5am and end my day around 10pm. and study meticulously during that time span. GA portion started coming in my dreams now. CGL is the only thing on my mind during that time.Instead of making a time table i try to maximise the output and write every succesful activity done and at the end of the day take an overview of my proceedings of that day.For vocabulary the heights are barrons 3500 mnemonics, i tried every dictionary app in android finally settled on Merriam webster( best dictionary), read The Hindu articles and bookmark new words in the app.Geography is interesting for me and i made these personalized mapsHeight ends when exam did not happened on time and I become lenient and start wasting my time. The height now is buried in the ground. Then i decided to appear for IBPS PO 2018 with 20 days in hand and no clue of the reasoning portion of exam, i appeared for exam on 13 oct 2018. Failed miserably in that exam.Learning from my failures i started keeping my resouces limited and revising multiple times. You should also learn from other people’s mistakes instead of making mistake first and then learn a lesson. Then comes the AFCAT 2019 I sticked to my basics and performed well in the exam. Skipped SSB.Then comes CPO 18, satisfactory performanceNow CGL 18 is to be conducted in 4–13 june and there are no hights in preparation now. Life has become monotonous now. The D-day is approaching now and now its time to perform. The pressure started mounting.I am not so much of a social person and deleting social media profiles is not applicable to me. Its more or less the same.Apart from height there are also lows in preparation, there are several days on which you dont feel like studying at all, sometimes bad performance in mock test also makes one feel dejected.I hope i will establish my new heights of preparation when i will start preparing for UPSC.Edit- Thanks for the 500+ upvotes guys.😁
