I had no idea who is was at that time.In 1993 I decided to move to Oregon and made the move and after a few months I went into the DMV to change my license and gave them my data to get a new license and they put my data into the computer and told me that in 1975 I had applied for a license and they would give me the same DL number but I would have to clear the suspension first and they also told me that there was a DUI warrant for me and I said I had not been in Oregon in 1975 and showed them my Califorian license with the first issue date on it and they believed me but said that I would have to go to court in Ontario Oregon and make it right.I drove the 250 miles and went to the sherrifs office and told them and an Deputy went and got the file and layed in in front of me with a mugshot of my brother and they asked me if I knew the person and I said not at all (which is in itself a crime but it was my brother and I would never hear the end of it from my own parents if he was put in jail. The deputy gave ma a paper to take to court to clear it and I did. The judge was nice.Everything was great huh? well not really. Went I went back to the DMV they said ok all is almost well but I would have to pay a fee to unsupend my license before I could get a license. I said no because it was not me and they told me it was out of their hands as I had to pay it. I found the name of the 2nd in command at the dmv because the clerk did fell badly for me and I wrote him a long letter describing the situation with all of the documents that I had aquired from Sherrif, Court and DMV and I told him that DMV told me that I had to pay a small fee to reinstate but to me that would stay on my record and and I just could not accept that being on my record. He called me on and told me not to worry as I now have the cleanest record in the entire state as he had it cleared as soon as he read my letter. What a wonderful man! All was well.Whe the DMV told me that I had to fay the fee to reinstate I went to my brother and told him all I had gone thru and gave him the chance to clear it for me but my mother said no and now he was clean with AA for 14 years. So I said ok and wrote the letter. Funny thing is 14 years earlier he came to my home in California and he was on a bender and I talked him into going to rehab and drove him the 60 miles to take him there and paid the entrance fee for him. A few years before he died he came to me and thanked me and told me he was so sorry and that he loved me very much. We had a wonderful relationship for his remaining years. Love you Joe!
