For the time being, you cannot target shoot in Los Padres NF, though you can hunt there if you have your hunting license and are only going to be shooting at the animal you have your tag for. Bring your lead-free ammo for hunting as that is required also. Note: the entire Los Padres National Forest was temporarily closed by Forest Order due to coronavirus since April 17, 2020, but it has been reopened and all access points as of June 1 2020 are now available. There was never any reason to deny licensed hunters use of the whole National Forest. (Edit: due to the Dolan Fire in Big Sur of 2020, some or all of the Los Padres National Forest will be temporarily closed, so please check the website of the Monterey section of the Los Padres NF before you go to ensure it's open again before you head out.) Some campsites in the Forest remain closed “except to residents,” which you can protest by letter to your Congressperson (since that policy was found to be unconstitutional when tested by a court in a previous similar National Forest issue). However, typically upon Forest reopenings, the National Forest staff are pressured to reopen the campsites to all if some people have contacted Congress during the closures about this practice. Check websites of these areas for any additional temporary restriction (such as fire related restriction).For Condon Peak / Clear Creek Management Area shooting / hunting (note: there may be deer, wild pig, quail, chukar, and small game encountered), from Hollister go south on State Highway 25 and turn left at Coalinga Road heading east. See also following link for further details: Bureau of Land ManagementFor Williams Hill BLM shooting / hunting (note: there may be deer or wild pig encountered) / camping, to get there from 101 (S) from King City, take the San Ardo exit and turn right (not left going to San Ardo) follow that road 1/4 mile and it will veer right follow another mile and take your first possible left turn (a dirt road). Follow that dirt road about 10 miles (could be less, it takes about 10 minutes) back and you will reach the bottom of Williams Hill, there should be a Williams Hill sign. You can continue up the hill to the right (some roads and hills are steep) and find your shooting spots, maintaining safety considerations, pack out what you bring in. Any ammo lead-free or not can be used for target shooting, bring in and pack out your targets, sandbags / backstop material and leave it a bit cleaner than you found it.Please bring a garbage bag and a broom / scraper or brass picker upper and pick up more than you brought in since there are too many people leaving it all behind and never cleaning up their mess. Take the San Ardo exit and travel west onto Paris Valley Road, turn left onto Lockwood-San Ardo Road. The public lands boundary begins approximately 5 miles down the road from the Lockwood-San Ardo Road turnoff.
