To close HDFC Demat account and trading account, send an email from registered email id to [email protected] with details of trading and DP account numbers.Closure of demat account basis the email from registered e-mail id is for demat accounts with Sole holder, NIL holding & nil outstanding DP charges.Status update of request is within 4 working days.

Recently I was scammed by HDFC Bank or as they call themselves India’s No.1 Bank.Long story; read only if interested.I had created salary account in HDFC bank in 2014. The bank executive created demat account along with my salary account and told me that this demat account was complimentary with my salary account. I never used that demat account.Suddenly after 3 years(in Nov 2017) Rs. 885 was deducted from my account as demat account maintenance charges. Once I came to know about this I tried to call their so called customer care number. The call got connected to HDFC bank executive and I told him what had happened. He told me that I have to call demat people and he was from savings/current account department. So I tried to call the demat people but for HDFC bank’s poor service the call was getting disconnected for no reason. I kept calling the same number in hope of I might get a chance to speak with the CC executive from demat section.One and half hours went by still no luck. the call was getting disconnected for no reason whatsoever. Finally after few more frustrating minutes the call got connected to one of their executive and I explained him what had happened. He told me that he cant help me and I had to visit my nearest HDFC branch. Then I visited my nearest HDFC branch; The executive in that branch told me that I do not have account in their branch and I need to go to the branch where my account was created to get the problem resolved. I explained him that it was salary account and I never visited that branch where my account was present because those HDFC bank executives came to my office and created that account for me and also that branch is located at least 20Km away from where I live. So he told me to call their CC number and inform them what had happened and they will inform my home branch.After what I had experienced with their CC service I decided not to call them again and took the matter to their HDFC bank twitter handler. Those guys gave me a complaint number and told me to send a mail to one of their complaint desk. So I did. After some 2 days I got a call from my home branch and the woman on the call told me to go to HDFC bank in richmond road or old airport road or ramamurthy nagar (all in bangalore where I live). I aked if I can go to my nearest branch because those branches were also away from my place and I did not want to go those places in this bangalore traffic, but I did not get a choice. So I said OK for that and suddenly after few minutes I got mail from my home branch manager saying my complaint was resolved. At this point neither had I closed my demat account nor had I gotten refund. I was surprised a little and still decided to ignore that.Next day I went to richmond road branch HDFC bank and explained them what had happened. They told me all I had to do to close my account was send a simple mail to them. Then it stuck me: making me go to branch that far instead of telling me to send an email was just a trick from these people in a hope that I would give up closing my demat account and they would not have to refund my money. Anyway I sent the closure email and received refund of Rs.560 after repeatedly sending emails to my home branch manager and his supervisor. But still they are yet to refund remaining amount of 322 as of today.Moral of this looooooong story: Do not get fooled by the word free or complimentary that gets thrown around by any bank executives. Do not buy services you don’t need. If some one tells you that they will create an account for you for free or they will issue you a credit card for free don’t fall for it. There will be maintenance charges and/or closure charges.So be careful people………Edit: How to close HDFC demat account if executive in the bank didn’t help you:Contact HDFC_Cares on twitter and explain the problem. They will give you a complaint number. something like : TWxxxxxxx. with this complaint number send a complaint email to [email protected]. Then you will get a call from your home branch and they will tell you to go to some branch. but don’t agree with that. tell them you know you can close your demat account just by sending an email and that is what you are gonna do. Send an email to [email protected] with your customer id and something they told me as DP Id and client ID; and demand for refund.

You can easily close your Demat account in HDFC bank by sending an email to their Demat closure mail id [email protected]. This mail must be sent from the registered email id.
