What are fun things to do in South Dakota?

Cow tipping! I'm kidding. But no, really...This would completely depend on what is fun for you. I will try and cover a range of activities.Outdoor:The Badlands - this isn't really a single activity; there are many fun things one can do in the Badlands. In the winter it is perfect for snow-related things like cross country skiing and snowmobiling (a favorite of the locals). Hiking, camping, fishing, etc is all over there, and in Custer State Park, and, well, everywhere.Mt. Rushmore - this is best to visit for 4th of July, or in conjunction with a camping trip. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere, and can seem to be a "letdown" if you drive for a really long time to get there just to turn around and drive a really long time to leave.Find Spirit Mound outside Vermillion, SD. Run down it really, really fast.Star gaze - Pick a rural dirt road. Any road. Really. Any one will do. Set up a picnic for sunset, and then star gaze. You will not be disappointed. But you will need bug spray and water and some more bug spray.Float "the river" - This is referring to the Missouri, a big, lazy river. Grab an inner tube, perhaps a chilled beverage of your choice, and enjoy floating down.Boat on "the river" or a lake - lots of this to do. Pick a boat, pick some water, and go! Not a great place for jet skis, but wonderful for canoes, etc. The Missouri is quite slow in most places in South Dakota.Drive - this may sound lame to some, but if you have never experienced hour after hour of cornfields and flat lands, you may want to give it a shot. Driving off the interstate onto rural roads can also provide a lot of fun. Old churches, roads perfect for mudding, rolling hills perfect for the photographer in you... all this and more can be found from the leisure of your vehicle. Watch the weather...Storm chase - tornado season can be quite thrilling if you let it.Go to a football game - high school or college will do. Let the school spirit take you away... If you want indoor, go to the Dakota Dome.Pheasant hunting - believe it or not, South Dakota is one of the best places to hunt pheasants.Sturgis - like Harley Davidson motorcycles? Want to go to a huge rally? Go to Sturgis. Thousands of bikers migrate to Sturgis for the annual rally and for a good time.Taunt a bison - slowly approach a bison to see if you can touch it. This is great fun! No, actually don't do that if you want to live. They are fast and they are mean when threatened. But you can stay in the car and take pictures of the bison bison. Also, the prairie dogs bite... ask how I know...Indoor:Casino- like to gamble? Depending on where in South Dakota you find yourself, a casino is likely to be close.Go to the Corn Palace museum - if you aren't in the least bit intrigued by that statement, I cannot help you at all with this list. Also there is the National Music Museum and other interesting places all over the place.Whatever you would do indoor somewhere elseWall Drug - have you ever seen a sign for Wall Drug? If not, drive a little on I-90 and you won't go far without seeing one. It's worth a stop. So is Deadwood (home of Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane and also a place you can pan for gold), and the homestead of Laura Ingalls Wilder.Random and perhaps educational:Find a placard - lots of history is in South Dakota (like anywhere). If you are looking for it, you can find Lewis and Clark info, Native American info (like the Sioux tribe or Lakota after which the state was named), and settlers/pioneer info.Go to a tractor pull - this fits in the "random" and not really the "educational." If there is a county fair going on, there is likely to be two must-sees: the tractor pull and the demolition derby. Buying popcorn is optional. Very few things can prepare you for such an exciting event as a tractor pull; have the cameras ready ;)Racing - there are lots of different kinds of races you can see or participate in. If you are the kind of person who perked up at this answer, you can certainly search for your cup o' tea.Dig for dinosaurs - I actually don't know if you can dig there, but there is learning center thingy with dinosaurs and mammoths in the Black Hills.Go to the Delta One Launch Control Facility and the Delta Nine Launch Facility - you can learn all about the missile launch facilities buried under the plains from the Cold War.I hope this gives a couple ideas! Also, if you are asking a local, the real pronunciation of the state capital is "peer." Not "pee-air" like you were probably taught. Just don't get confused...

Which state has more things to do, North Dakota or South Dakota?

I depends on what you want to do. I’m a True South Dakotan. I know more about South Dakota most of my cousins live in North Dakota so I don’t know as much about North Dakota. In South Dakota here are the things you can do. In Western South Dakota where I live, you have The monuments of MT Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, the 1880 Train, the town of Sturgis ( Home of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally), Deadwood SD home to Some of the famous people in US history, wineries like (prairie berry in Hill City), Rapid City home to a lot of Micro Brueries). For those who love to bike we have the George Michelson trail which has over 100 miles of trails to ride. In the black Hills we have a lot of Rock Climbing, Hiking , Four wheel off roaring and Snowmobiling/ skiing in the winter time. Also we have Ellsworth SD home to the Air Force abase which has the highly rated Air and Space Museum. The middle of the state which is Pierre our state capital you have the state parade of decorated at the capital in December, I’ve been to that a few times and it’s spectacular. There are trees decorated from most of the cities in South Dakota. If you love to fish for Whalley fish in Pierre, go to Lake Ouhea Dam it’s the best. Now onto the Eastern side of the state. If you go to Mitchell SD you will find the Mitchell Corn Palace which is made totally out of corn. Also we have the Lewis and Clark Museum somewhere in SD. I know there is more on the Eastern side of the state, but I can’t think of anything else right now. I would say that South Dakota has more things to do than North Dakota.
