How many horse races are there in a day?

It’s possible. Horse racing occurs all around the world, and there are several races on every race card. So, moving east to west and depending which tracks were running, you could start your race day with races in New Zealand, Australia and Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, the Middle East, Russia, Europe, then farther west to the Americas. Most tracks don’t run year round, but in major racing countries at least, at least one track will be operating at least part of the week. Add to that the fact that betting sites feature different types of racing at the same time: flat thoroughbred racing, harness racing, quarter horse racing, and possibly jumps racing. Add them all up, and it is quite possible that every few minutes a race is going off somewhere. Currently there are 22 tracks in the U.S. and Canada alone that are running Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse flat races in early March. That doesn’t include any harness racing. There are seven U.S. harness tracks with races today (03/03/2017).Racing cards generally have nine or more races on any given day, going off at intervals of about 25 minutes or so. So a day of racing at a track lasts 4–5 hours or so, and each track’s racing may start at different times of the day, depending on the day—some start in the afternoon, some in the evening. Here’s an example. I live near a harness track, Miami Valley Raceway, that has races today. Race 1 starts at 6:05. The last race, race 14, goes off at about 10:25. There is a race every 20 minutes. At the same time, one of my local Thoroughbred tracks, Turfway, will have nine races beginning at 6:15 and ending at 10:07, with a race scheduled every 29 minutes. These races will overlap with both afternoon and evening race cards at other U.S. tracks from east coast to west coast. I could start watching racing at Tampa Bay at 12:44 Eastern and not stop until Los Alamitos was done at 10:16 Pacific (way past my bedtime).I get TVG on my satellite network, and it often happens that races will go off at almost the same time at different tracks. They show one live and the other on tape delay. And they usually show races from three or four tracks during a show.

Why is there very little mention of the Republic of Ireland? It as viewed as a poor cousin for many years after independence, but today is far more prosperous than the UK (and certainly more prosperous tha N

I am approaching my answer to this question from the viewpoint “Is the Republic of Ireland a good model on which to base Scottish Independence or to make a decision on Scottish Independence.”The UNDP Human Development Index 2019 places Ireland as the third most highly developed country in the world after Norway and Switzerland and 12 places above the UK who are in joint 15th place with the US.Ireland is the fastest developing country in the top fifty most highly developing countries and are developing six times faster than the US.If their current rate of development does not slow (and it has not slowed between 2008 and 2018) it will be the world’s most developed country within about ten years. That could be the story of Scotland. The UK is economically illiterate according to an economist that predicted the 2008 bank crash David McWilliams. His evidence for this is that current Tory economics front loads tariffs and state subvention and eschews free trade and free enterprise to retain the Northern English blue collar vote that gave them their majority. Now the UK wants to use Ireland as a hostage to bludgeon their way to an EU deal. The evidence is that Scotland is being held back and would do much better on their own.It is necessary, in economic fairness and to fulfil a basic tenet of economics, Ceteris Parabus (all things being equal) to look at the opposing side of the ledger. Here we use exactly the same evidence. The HDI 2019. Here we find that the UK surged up the HDI between 2009 and 2019 from 21st place to 15th place. We can say that the HDI evidence is a tie.The current COVID-19 response and recession can act as our tie-breaker. The death rate in Ireland is half that of the UK (The UK did very well after losing two weeks that were not lost in Ireland). The Recession is 20% deep in the UK. The Recession is 12% deep in the EU. The Recession is 6% deep in Ireland. This is because their economy is widely dispersed and international with Big Pharma, Big Tech and Big Online and other trading sectors buffering them from the COVID-19 downturn.Small and agile economies like Scotland will become do very well.Norway, Ireland, Singapore, Switzerland, Denmark and New Zealand all populate the upper regions of the HDI.Ireland, Denmark and New Zealand have the same population as Scotland about 5 million. All are situated peripherally in some way. Scotland can model themselves more successfully on these countries than on the UK.There is very little mention of Ireland because it is too good a model for Scotland and too good a rationale for Scottish Independence.Scotland is being held back. Scotland has a strong presence in the US and Australia that can be leveraged as successfully to fast forward development as in Ireland. My advice is simple. Front load education. Education is the thoroughbred in the race for development. Scotland will be independent within fifteen years and possibly sooner. Prioritise education now and when you are independent. Take your education lead from Finland who lead the world in education. The index of the UNDP Human Development Index 2019 is comprised of human longevity (Europeans live five years longer than Americans), projected education years at birth, years of education completed and per capita gross domestic income. This proves how important education is in support of my previous paragraph.

How many Americans have heard of the Melbourne Cup horse race?

"The race that stops a country."Well, if you're a fan of mystery writer Dick Francis, his book "In the Frame" has the running of the Melbourne Cup as a plot vehicle. If you're a fan of Thoroughbred racing, and you've ever engaged in debate over who was the greatest racehorse of all time, Phar Lap and his victory in the Melbourne Cup under 138 pounds has certainly come up.If you're a fan of more modern Thoroughbred champions, then you most assuredly know about Makybe Diva and her THREE CONSECUTIVE MELBOURNE CUPS, competing against the best male Thoroughbreds in Australia and New Zealand. If you're a fan of poetry, then "Banjo" Paterson's "A Dream of the Melbourne Cup" might bring the race to your attention. How often does the folk poet hero of a nation choose a horse race as subject?A DREAM OF THE MELBOURNE CUP by A.B. 'Banjo' PatersonI know horse racing has fallen out of favor of late, but I think that if a person has any interest at all in Australian history, culture or arts and letters, they're going to bump up against "The Cup."List of Melbourne Cup winners - Wikipedia
