Studying with ACCA allows you to build a future that is diverse, challenging and full of opportunities.There are three equally important elements to qualifying as an ACCA accountant – exams, practical experience and a professional ethics module. The exams are progressive, so if you have a degree in history or economics you will build on your knowledge as you progress. If you have a relevant degree, you will likely be entitled to some exemptions, and will enter the qualification at the most appropriate level. You will need to complete 14 papers in total. A maximum of nine papers in the fundamentals level are available for exemption. We contribute to consultations on the development of the UK tax system and seek to ensure that, for the general public, it is workable and as fair as possible.In order to sit the exams, candidates must be at least 16 years old and have a reasonable standard of English and mathematics. To become a member of the Association, and use the practising title of Taxation Technician, candidates will need to pass five examination papers and have a minimum of two years' experience, either part-time or full-time, working in taxation or in any other occupation that entails an element of UK taxation. Candidates are examined on Personal Taxation, Business Taxation & Accounting Principles, Law, Professional Responsibilities & Ethics, and a specialist tax paper from a choice of four options. Credits are available for candidates who have passed the examinations of certain other professional bodies prior to sitting the ATT exams. Candidates must be registered with the Association for at least six months before being allowed to enter for a written examination, which are held in May and November.Chartered Accountants IrelandQualification: Chartered accountant qualification (ACA / FCA)Chartered Accountants Ireland is Ireland’s largest accountancy body with over 23,000 members and 6,000 students, of whom 3,700 members and 1,000 students are in Northern Ireland. In order to sit the exams, candidates need a ‘confirmation of eligibility’, which can be gained in a number of ways including qualifying as a solicitor, an accountant, or passing the Association of Taxation Technician (ATT) exams.To become a Chartered Tax Adviser, candidates will need three years’ professional experience and to pass six tax papers. There are currently over 20,000 members working globally, many in high-ranking positions such as chief executive, chairman, director or partner.The CA qualification takes three years to complete and involves a combination of structured work experience, classroom-based study and exams. The exam syllabus contains ten subjects divided into three stages: the test of competence (TC), entailing the initial acquisition of knowledge; the test of professional skills (TPS), in which students develop their practical skills; and the test of professional expertise (TPE), assessing the judgement and application of knowledge. However, the main similarity between the two services is they are working to make professional networking more inclusive and improve the state of women and minority folks in the workplace.My background is in marketing, product, and growth and I am a passionate diversity and inclusion advocate. Prior to joining the Lunchclub team, I worked on marketing and growth at Hey! VINA - Where Women Meet New Friends, a platonic female friendship app backed by NEA, Tinder, and Greylock. Within year one, we were connecting millions of women in 155+ countries around the world and were featured in the App Store Best of 2017. I also co-founded Female Founders Community, the largest online community of women entrepreneurs in the world.The Women In The Workplace Report is the largest and most comprehensive study of the state of women in Corporate America and is conducted by Lean In | Join a Circle and get involved and McKinsey. Since 2015, the report has been published annually to give employees and companies the information they need to advance women and improve gender diversity within their organizations. No meaningful progress has been made since the beginning of the study, and in fact, the state of women in the workplace declined in 2018. After the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements and reports of sexual harassment, the study found that almost half of male managers have reported feeling uncomfortable participating in a common work activity with a woman, such as mentoring, working alone, or socializing together (How Women & Men Are Feeling After #MeToo | #MentorHer). This is often referred to as the “Mike Pence Rule.”Now more than ever we need to create products that work to make the workplace and professional networking more inclusive and effective for people of all ages, races, sexual orientations, and cultures. When more women and minorities are hired and promoted to leadership, organizations produce better business results and sexual harassment is less prevalent.Product differences:Bumble is a location-based social and dating application with three “modes” or verticals: Bizz (professional networking), BFF (friendships), and Date (dating). Bizz is focused around users making professional connections. Bizz is similar to Bumble’s dating mode as the woman must make the first move, and if it is a same sex connection this rule doesn't apply. After conversation has been initiated then the connection has 24 hours to reply or the connection will disappear. Users upload a digital resume, a skills section, and examples of their work.Lunchclub is not an application. It is a platform that makes mutually relevant in-real-life professional connections. There are no product differences for genders on Lunchclub. Users sign up and indicate their home city, goals, and interests, and opt in for meetings on a weekly basis. Our machine learning algorithms work the magic from there.The results of connections made through Lunchclub are truly inspiring: cofounding relationships, startup and entertainment investments, hirings, new friendships, consulting and advising, our users getting into Village Global and YC, speaking engagements, and more.Business model:Swiping apps are very time consuming and always a gamble. Dr. Jess Carbino, in-house sociologist at Bumble shared with Business Insider that users spend an average of 90 minutes a day on Bumble, logging on 10 times a day for about nine minutes a time and people spend hours every day swiping through one profile after another without actually communicating with anyone. If users meet their perfect connection on Bumble, delete the app, or never use it again, then Bumble's business model would be less successful. Swiping apps like Bumble and Tinder rely on users to continue swiping.At Lunchclub, we do not rely on users engaged digitally for our product to add value. In fact, the metric we care about is the number of relevant meetings that happen offline.Psychological effects:Mixing photos and swiping with professional networking is tricky for the human brain. People believe that attractive people are more intelligent, sociable, competent, friendly, and trustworthy according to the American Psychological Association.Another issue is choice overload. Psychologist Barry Schwarz has claimed that having too many options reduces the likelihood that any decision will be made at all. Choice overload also reduces our certainty that any specific choice we make is the correct one. One study found that consumers were more likely to buy a jam when they were presented with six flavors compared to 30. And among those who did make a purchase, the people presented with fewer flavors were more satisfied with their choice.Lunchclub has no choice overload and none of the above biases. While users opt in to use Lunchclub each week, they do not choose their new connections. Our algorithms broker relevant connections that help both sides with their professional goals and learn to do an even better job of that as we get to know our users more.Ghosting:The phenomenon of “ghosting” has become well known. Ghosting is when people don't reply, stand people up, or cancel last minute. The average ghosting rate on swiping apps is around 32% according to MarketWatch.Lunchclub's ghosting rate is less that 1%.
