What is a paradox in movies that cannot be fixed?

This is a paradox that can be fixed…it’s just…well, once you fix it, the movie is only 15 minutes long….Note: See UPDATE added at the end:UPDATE: Wow, in about a week, almost 3,800 upvotes! Wow! For someone who’s not Quora Famous I’m dumbfounded. There are a lot of people who have cast aspersions on if this is true. Certainly, the claim in the second panel that implies that a religious institution NEVER pays taxes is off. There are situations in which they will have to.But the specific question in mind: would a Catholic-run orphanage in Chicago (and we can presume there are no other duties they fulfill) pay property taxes of the type described as the $5,000 owed?No they would not.The Surly Subgroup (a tax blog) took a look at thisIllinois, like many states, exempts certain property from property taxation, including property used exclusively for religious purposes or as orphanages.[fn2] And the property that was assessed?I mean, the Saint Helen of the Blessed Shroud Orphanage probably hits both of those criteria. In most cases, to maintain the exemption, the owner of exempt property must file an annual affidavit with the chief county assessment officer stating that there has been no change in the exempt purpose or use of the property.[fn3] So maybe the problem was that the Order failed to file its affidavit?Nope. It turns out that there are a handful of exceptions to the annual affidavit requirement, and one of those exceptions is for property used for religious purposes or for orphanages. So the Sisters didn’t miss a filing deadline.[fn4]So far, then, it’s looking like X-Ray was right, and that the major plot driver is a big goof. But we have one more shot. It turns out that there’s a condition on the religious and orphanage exemption: the property cannot be used with a “view to profit.”[fn5] If it is being used with a view to profit, it doesn’t qualify for the tax exemption. Moreover, Illinois courts have clarified that the burden of proof is on the property owner to demonstrate that the property is not being used with a view to profit, and that view to profit defeats an underlying religious purpose. And it defeats that religious purpose even if the profit is ultimately used for a charitable purpose.[fn6]So was the Blues Brothers MacGuffin a goof? Um, probably, yes.Furthermore, one has to wonder — with the orphanage being funded by 1) the Archdiocese of Chicago, 2) the Vatican’s various charities, or, 3) some combo of both, would they even really have to sweat $5,000?? (and yes, I realize it’s $15,000 in today's money. Still)In 1980, the Archdiocese of Chicago operated something around 400+ schools in the area. To say nothing of the churches and cathedrals they also had. It stretches credulity that the orphanage would be so strapped. (Now yes, in recent years, for various reasons, the Catholic Church’s finances have suffered and many churches and schools have been closed in Chicago and just in general. But again, we’re talking about 1980.)Also, the orphanage has been around for at least a couple of decades since Jake and Elwood grew up there. How would they have missed a simple accounting detail like that? Also, again it’s never made clear, but the Church would usually own the land the property is on, outright. At the end of the day, the reason for the tax bill basically boils down to Cinemasin’s favorite line “So the movie can happen”.

Should I have to pay inside IITs?

Yes, you have to pay fee.In IIT Kharagpur, for one semester, total fee would be around Rs. 1,30,000/- to Rs. 1,40,000/- (almost every IIT has around the same amount). If you split the amount, you will have exactly Rs. 1,00,000/- for Institute fees ( goes for teaching departments, labs, exam fees, etc) and remaining amount goes for Hostel fees( for food, Wi-Fi, electricity, Medical needs, etc). There can be minute changes in Hostel Fees in every semester. But, you can reduce your fee, in other words, you will be provided fee waiver (of Rs.1,00,000/- or Rs. 50,000/-) if you submit proper income documents (different IITs ask for different types of income documents, for me, they asked Income Affidavit) of your total family (not only of your father, both of your mother & father are needed) and they will also verify it (I also attached verified screenshots of mine). You have to show NILL besides your mother’s income if your mother is house-wife.If your family ANNUAL income lies below 1 lakh, your total institute fee(Rs. 1,00,000/-) will be waived off and you only need to pay Hostel fee (usually lies between Rs. 30,000–Rs. 40,000). If your total family ANNUAL income lies between 1 lakh to 6 lakhs, 50% of institute fee (Rs.50,000/-) will be waived off and you need to pay 50,000 + Hostel fee. If your family ANNUAL income lies above 6 lakhs, you don’t even need to submit income proofs as you will not get any waive off. So, you need to pay total amount (Institute fee + Hostel fee). You will also get scholarship of Rs.12000/- each year provided your CGPA is greater than 7.0 (at the end of each year) without any backlogs and with income proof less than 1 lakh or less than 6 lakhs (both 1 lakh and 6 lakh categories are eligible). But, there is an exception for Freshers(1st year students). There is no such burden of CGPA cut off or no backlogs rules for freshers. They can claim scholarship for first year just if their 12th marks are greater than 70% even if they have backlogs at the end of 1st year.I personally come under less than 1 lakh category (So, Rs.1,00,000/- has been waived off for me every semester) and I also get the scholarship of Rs. 12,000/- every year . I put the images of my fee for every semester (AUTUMN means 1st semester of that financial year, SPRING means 2nd semester of that financial year). 5th semester fee was very lower because of Corona time and we were not in the college. Don’t consider it(Rs. 21,250/-).Middle class people can get income certificate with such low income. It’s possible in villages. But i am sure my family annual income is not around Rs. 98,000/- , it is around Rs. 2,00,000/- (my father is a weaver). So, what do you say ? Should I pay extra Rs. 50,000/- per semester (1 lakh per year) thinking about morality leaving the opportunity ? Don’t consider it as a scam (there will extra burden of Rs. 1,00,000/- per year on my father who has annual income of Rs. 2,00,00/- per year). Most people from middle class background will do the same thing here and get their institute fee waived off completely. Please keep in mind that, I wrote this answer to let middle class people understand that fee structure would not be a problem for them to study in IITs. You might have known that BITS average college fee for one year is usually around Rs. 4,20,000/- . So, compared to BITS, IITs are best choices for middle class people.Note:a) There is no need of rules like CGPA cut off or no backlogs in order to get Institute fee waiver. Income documents are enough to claim it.b) You have to submit documents every financial year (April 1st to Mar 31st). They will announce some due date, you can also extend due date with valid reasons. IITs are very friendly to us.c) Don’t just watch and go, Please Upvote. My spouse is abroad and I am the petitioner applying (form I-130). We are a household of 3 with our child. Is my $33,000 annual salary enough to get my spouse approved for immigrant visa at the embassy?

The sponsorship requirement for an immigrant visa is 125% of the federal poverty level, as established by HHS, for a household of the size that will exist after the immigrant(s) being sponsored is (or are) added to it. Sponsors who are in active duty in the Armed Forces need only demonstrate 100% of the federal poverty level. For 2020, 125% of the HHS poverty level for a household of three is $27,150, except for households in Alaska and Hawaii. For Alaska, the requirement is $33,937; for Hawaii the requirement is $31,225. (Source: 2020 HHS Poverty Guidelines for Affidavit of Support.)These numbers will likely change in 2021 (they’re usually updated by March 1 of each year), but probably not by much because 2020 was such a spectacularly disastrous year economically. They might even go down for 2021.Please do also note that the determination as to whether the sponsor has adequate financial resources is made by USCIS, not by the consulate, and that a determination by USCIS that the sponsor has sufficient resources to act as a sponsor is not a guarantee that the intended beneficiary’s visa will issue.
