PDF Editor FAQ

Should I get a dog for my dog?

I did, years ago, when my big dog died and my little dog got a nervous condition. She wasn't big enough, at 14 pounds, to manage the property, and constantly afraid on her own.I got her a replacement big dog (50 pounds) and she settled back into her role as lapdog for another six or seven years.Be careful. Then we got a dog for that dog, and a dog for that dog, and now we are seven dogs.

I rehomed my dog. The new owners said I can visit him whenever I want to see him. Is 5 days later too soon?

I rehomed my dog. The new owners said I can visit him whenever I want to see him. Is 5 days later too soon?First, they were being nice. They were not really expecting you to stop by on any random day without calling (i.e. “whenever I want”). Or to visit at all. Ever.Second, if you gave your dog up through a rescue or shelter, the rescue or shelter might have rules about disrupting the dogs’ new life. Check the surrender agreement and adoption agreement. If you have an informal agreement with the new owner(s) - no shelter or rescue adoption contract - then the new owner is an idiot because you could randomly demand your dog back claiming you just asked them to take care of your dog for a while. Most adoption contracts indicate you have 3 business days from surrender to change your mind. After that 3 business days is past you have no legal right or privilege to be anywhere near the dog. You’re just another person on the street. When I’m asked to foster a new rescue, for example, I do not tell anyone I have the dog for those 3 business days. Once the 3 business days is past, I can post pictures and let friends and family know about my new foster. The rescue is responsible for advertising when the dog is available for adoption, which might be a few days, weeks or even months after those 3 business days.Third, if you gave the dog up then you should never visit the dog because it will confuse the dog and delay settling in, training, confidence, etc. The new owners will have all sorts of behavioral issues to deal with given the confusion.

Should I get rid of my dog if my boyfriend hates it? He told me not to get rid of my dog, but I feel like the little guy deserves a loving home.

EDIT: The original question has been edited several times. My answer, below, reflects the original question as it was posted.I have to be brutally honest here - whenever I see such a question (and there are so many variations of this question on Quora) I immediately think one of two things: (1) Internet troll and DFTT. (2) A person deprived of any sense of self-esteem and/or self-worth.Let me break it down for you:Kicking a dog (in general; and more so for no reason) is a despicable and abhorrent act. This is a classic representation of the strong preying on and abusing the weak for no reason other than sadistic tendencies. The fact that you CHOOSE to stay with such a person reflects poorly on you and your own choices. Stated differently: run while you still can and set higher standards for yourself.A person who kicks a dog (in general; and more so for no reason) is someone you do NOT want to be with. Today it’s the dog, tomorrow it is you, your children, etc. No sane person in this world kicks a dog for fun.If you still prefer this person over the dog, then, YES, please put up that poor animal for adoption as quickly as possible, so that it could have the loving home it deserves (and avoid further abuse from your sadistic boyfriend)After you put up the dog for adoption, add the following numbers to your speed dial or favorites: 911 and the nearest battered women’s shelter in your area. Trust me, you’ll need both at one point.
