Of all the MilSim games I’ve tried (and I’ve tried most all of those that aren’t just plain silly) ArmA is easily head and shoulders above the rest of the field when it comes to realism. (FWIW I’m one of those who resist futurizing the action.) The whole design is very intentionally realistic.Of course the quality of the immersive experience depends on player style. (I find solo activity just plain tedious.)What can’t be replicated? tired, cramped, too hot or too cold, too dry or too wet … in the field cannot be well simulated.Addendum: from years ago, TAW ArmA2:OA, I had been invited to join a 2Btn platoon for one of their large events.“Realistic” doesn’t mean “romantic and glorious”!

The most over the top thing Ive seen on my current (quiet, neighborly) street was a young man walking down the street yelling, “I'M DONE! NO, WE'RE OVER!!” while a car crept alongside him and his (ex, I guess) sobbed and begged for him to change his mind.I'm a busybody, so I opened the door to watch them because it looked worrisome. A couple doors further down she hit the gas, raced in front of him, slammed on the brakes to block his path. Then she jumped out of the car and just started slapping the shit out of him and screaming at him.That was about enough for me, so I ducked back in the house, grabbed my phone, and headed their way. Honestly, I was impressed with the way the guy held on to his calm and waited for her to stop --didn't even try to protect himself, just waited-- but then he hit his limit and slammed her onto the hood of his car. Didn't hurt her --just hard enough to be scary-- and just held her there.“WHOA-HO-OA!!!” I yelled, and he let go and jumped away. He knew it, she knew it, I knew it, if I called the police he was f!cked.I don't remember what I said; something that made it clear I knew who was causing more problems. (hint: Not him) He started back the way he came and I went back to my door. As we both walked up our respective sides of the street I said, “Do NOT let her hit you.”Sometimes you just *know* crazy ain't done, and I could hear her turning the car around behind us. I got up on the porch and said again, a lot louder, “DO NOT let her hit you!” He stared back and she accelerated and there was that moment of disbelief —and then he jumped behind a telephone pole and she swerved towards him and then past and went flying up the street.That argument kept going for like 2 hours before she gave up. Most of it real close to my house, I noticed. I'd have called the police, but you know how that goes: Young black guy, gf says he put his hands on her, probably has a mark or two from when he put her on the hood… he didn't need the grief. He'd have ended up in jail no matter what the truth was. I've seen how that plays out.She finally gave up after he yelled at her for attempted vehicular manslaughter.
