PDF Editor FAQ

How can some people make deep conversations for hours while I run out of words after just a few minutes? Do they have a "talking strategy"?

I am a person who loves conversing for hours. So is my partner Eve. The two of us never run out of conversation. What do we talk about? Ethics, politics, the Fermi paradox, our next book, things happening in our social circle, Quaker religious belief, personhood theory, nineteenth century Britain, evolutionary biology, computer security, linguistics, Star Wars, the Stanford Prison Experiment, dancing, cats, Martian exploration, consent culture, Iain Banks’ Culture novels, yoga, crowdfunding platforms….and that's just in the last three days! It's been my experience that the best way to keep a conversation going is to have a wide variety of interests, to be able to talk openly about your interests, and to cultivate a mindset of curiosity about other people’s interests. Remember, conversation is a two-way street. It's not just on you to keep talking; part of conversation is listening, too. What do you like? What interests you? What lights you up? Surely there's something that fascinates you, that can hold your interest for more than a couple of minutes.

What are some things that psychologists know, but most people don't?

You don’t have “a personality” you have “personalities” - Freud developed the concept of “self” at the beginning of the last century. And although the concept of how your “self” is organized has developed since then the rub is about the same: You are a group of different drives and subconscious thoughts that are all bubbling around your non-conscious mind. Your conscious mind is then sort of “riding” along with the tide of your unconscious mind.Your thoughts and feelings are brittle - Psychologist Robert Cialdini catalogues in his book Influence: Science and Practice how very small tactics and behaviors with others can gain widely different amounts of compliance. As an example, when asked if it was okay to put a large sign in someone’s yard the majority asked said “no” right off the bat. But when asked first if a small sign could be placed more consented… but then a week later the group that consented was asked if a large sign could be placed and a larger percentage agreed. More famous perhaps is the good samaritan experiment.Your sense of self is dependent upon your situation - Think you have good moral character and are good to others? That’s only because you have a context and identity that lets you think that way. Don’t believe me? In the 1970’s the psychologist Philip Zimbardo conducted the now infamous Stanford Prison Experiment. Volunteer college students were divided into two groups: prisoners and guards. Within a shockingly short amount of time the guards began abusing prisoners, who themselves began acting quiet and guilty of crimes they didn’t commit. The behavior was reminiscent of the treatment of prisoners in Abu Ghraib prison decades later. To become successful you have to treat yourself like a stranger - Psychologists have long known that you have to treat yourself as a stranger, as an other, and manipulate your own behavior to get yourself to succeed. So, using the above example from Cialdini, if you want to get yourself to do something big, start with something small. If you’re trying to get yourself to run a marathon, but aren’t a runner, first sign up for a 5k, and before that, commit to walking every morning.Like my thoughts? What is the most creepiest and unethical psychological experiment ever conducted?

My first impulse is to go to the Stanford Prison experiment.Stanford prison experiment - WikipediaConducted by Zimbardo in the 1970s, it inflicted emotional abuse on participants, withheld informed consent, and perhaps manipulated the findings/results.The Stanford Prison Experiment was massively influential. We just learned it was a fraud.Similar to this in lack of ethics were Harry Harlow’s monkey studies, which deprived monkey infants of maternal caregiving.

The product does not work as advertised. I sent in a trouble ticket and the response I got back was a description of how wonderful all of there other products were, but nothing about a fix for my problem. They did offer a refund, which has not been issued yet. I DO NOT recommend this product.
