I salute Engineers of Pakistan who are venturing and experiencing this journey.If we briefly discuss the Russian Stealth Sukhoi Su - 57 , Its patent claims an RCS of 0.1 m2 ; Looks Good when compared to say F 15. But against Raptor , Its 1,000 times larger than the overall 0.0001 m2 RCS. ..! Similarly application and maintenance of ‘delicate surface coatings’ of Stealth Fighters, Storage in special Hangers etc is still a headache for even Russia and Europe.Raptor F - 22 was a 5.0 G Jet which created alert among other nations to emulate the technology. This was achieved by US after spending two decades mastering this field.So when Russia , France , UK & China are struggling to match US with an effective 5.0 G Operationally capable jet , Pakistan is not equipped to venture in it. Funding such huge R&D is also a factor.But the route to it will be partnering a developing platform such as TAI - Tfx Turkey program or Shenyang FC-31 Chinese program. Similar technique was used to develop JF 17 Thunder by partnering China. PAF shared a meager sum and developed a cost effective solution to replace its legacy fleet. Thunder III will be a different and improved beast. Its operational inclusion will take 3 - 4 years.So we can see a potential 5.0 G Jet in PAF Colours in 2025.F-35 with world class advanced Mission systems & Electro-Optical Targeting System, synthetic aperture radar or its advanced jamming capabilities is not up for sales to non NATO Allies . Giving it to any country which could give out its secrets to China is not possible. SO F 35 with PAF is not a likely route..************************************************************************************PAF NON DEVELOPMENT OF 5.0 GEN JET - It could be attributed to numerous factors :The Need - Adversarial Air force doesn't have a 5 Gen Stealth Fighter till now. So need is not there.Evolution - A Baby needs to Crawl before could walk or run. It takes 40 - 50 years to develop the Brain and Muscle for this product.Stealth is a very new Technology , it requires ‘Advance design capability’ which needs to be learned. (PhDs, Universities, Labs, Experienced Engineers) . As explained above also, Only US (F -22 Raptor) & China ( J - 20 & J - 31) plus Russia (Su - 57 mostly in finishing touches) have this technology.4 — Industrial giants such as Lockheed Martin have decades of experience.5— Cost of Development - Its too high colossal - for a single developing economy. You need to join a consortium.6— Budgetary constraints - Where to put the money to - SAM - Nuclear Sub Marine - MBTs - Missiles , Fighter jets (Strategic Decision also)7—Sanctions and lack of Technology transfers ( Even spares of committed jets are stopped) hinders all weapons development programs for countries such as Pakistan.8— First phase was Mastering the ‘Over hauling expertise’ - which were obtained at PAF Kamrah etc by Mirage Upgrading Over hauling factory.9 — Next comes Experience to Retrofit Weapons and basic Avionics - which was achieved and defense related vendors were established.10 - Next comes some major similar platform building such as Training jets (Mashaaq developed) , Drones (Burraq and Shahpar) and Rockets and Missiles (Hatf , Shaheen , Ra’ad etc). This was achieved 02 decades back.11 - Next comes partnering with an ‘Willing Trusted Ally’ having strength / expertise in Aerodynamic designing . Izde 33 helped… Both China and Pakistan.12. — Developing Assembly lines for Fighter Jets - with Rated capacities for next 20 - 30 years with Basic Labs , Workshops and Test fields. This was achieved at Pakistan Aeronautical Complex.13 - Next key element or Building Main Systems are Air Frame Manufacturing , Hydraulic systems, Passive / Doppler Radar assembling , Power Plant & Engine manufacturing and Testing Facilities.Pakistan got this capability going in 2002 to 2007 when the Super F7 Program converted into Joint Fighter JF 17 Program with Chengdu Corporation CAC as Grumman backed out.
