Sat Or Act Practice Test: Fill & Download for Free

While there are a multitude of resources available out there for students to study for the SAT or ACT, the one piece of advice I recommend to the many high school students that ask me for advice on the SAT is this: practice with College Board SAT questions only.Many test prep companies will have their own test prep books or classes; however, these are questions that are generated by the test prep companies. At the end of the day, the most accurate practice students can get is to practice answering questions that are from College Board specifically, as they are the ones that are ultimately creating the test that students will be taking. I studied for the SAT. I did many practice tests, and was at the point where I would regularly get 2400s. If I got a question wrong, I’d be angry with myself. I would analyze why I got the question wrong, and how I could not get it wrong in the future. Come test day, I took the test, and got a 2300. My goal was a 2350+.I took the exam again, and got a 2280. Then I took it again and got a 2270. Time was running out, and I had already taken the SAT three times. It’s a bad look if a college sees that you’ve taken the SAT a lot of times.I signed up for the last possible test date before I had to submit my early applications, and it was an ACT test in November. I did some practice tests, and found that it was much easier for me. I was fast at doing the questions, I was triple and quadruple checking my answers on the SAT, and it was hard to stay focused after I finished the questions, but the ACT was a much faster exam, and I would have just about enough time to do the questions and check my answers once.It wasn’t all fun and games though, the “science” section was really just another reading section, and my science knowledge wasn’t really useful. Sometimes it even hampered me because I’d have prior knowledge about a topic being talked about, but I’d have to forget that and just rely on the passage.I took the exam, got a 36, and my school gave me a $20 chipotle gift card.

Foreign students often struggle getting into elite American universities, but Brits tend to do better than most. There’s a couple of reasons for that:The way that most elite American universities convert GCSE results to GPA favours British applicants.Most elite universities prefer applicants who have two or more SAT subject tests. Because Brits study a much more focussed curriculum in doing three A-levels, they can usually score well on those SAT subject tests.OK, that’s about it for advantages. The rest of it is just down to hard work. I’d offer the following advice:You really, really need to get a good score on your SAT or ACT. Practice, practice, practice. Make sure you identify and book for a test centre early. There aren’t that many in the UK, so if you live outside of London, try and make sure you can get to your nearest one on the day.Take the admissions essays seriously. There is one main one (for all colleges) and then each college requires certain bits of supplemental writing. Start these early, and do your best to produce some quality writing that reflects well on you.Talk to your teachers about letters of recommendation early. Americans expect something quite different from the usual sort of academic references that your teachers are used to giving on UCAS. They also expect more of them - you usually need at least two and probably three.American universities like to see extra curricular activities in the way that British universities don’t. That doesn’t mean you need to spend every waking hour doing sports, drama and charity. But you do need to at least be able to show that you are more than just the sum of your grades.Best of luck.
