If you enroll in a Singapore Airline’s Krisflyer membership programme, you will be able to earn and redeem miles on Singapore Airlines, Silk air, Vistara, Virgin Group, Alaska Airlines and all Star Alliance members. So if you have krisflyer membership, you can earn points from your flights on Thai Airways International (Star Alliance member) and Vistara.Vistara is not a member of star alliance but is a partner of Singapore Airlines and hence you can earn points from Singapore Airlines and Silk Air flights on Club vistara’s program. Vistara works differently from other frequent flyer programmes, where you earn points per 100 INR spent rather than on mileage distance.The benefits come into play when you join upper tiers of membership. Tier points, which count towards upgrading or renewing a tier can only be earned through Vistara flights. All other partner accruals can be used for redemption only and not for upgrading or renewing the membership tier. It is most useful when you fly within India frequently, especially to tier one or some tier two cities. The perks seem to be more rewarding than JP Miles and Air India’s Flying returns, ONLY if you do not frequently fly to Far flung areas.Happy Flying!

The question should be what is the best frequent flyer program for you. If the lure was a best frequent flyer program, the benefits may not really work with you. Thus, It really depends on which country you live, how frequently you fly, where do you fly mostlyWhich country you live?Based on the region and country you would need to choose which airline offers a wide domestic, regional and international network from your country. If you belong to a country with a hub of an airline belonging to a specific alliance, choose that airline as your frequent flyer program.For example, if you’re based in Singapore, enroll in the Krisflyer program. It’s beneficial for you because SIA and Silk Air have a wide Asian and global network. You can earn and redeem miles on both the airlines’ flights. Additionally, you can also earn and redeem miles on flights of members who belong to the Star Alliance.Another example is if you’re based in Ho Chi Minh City, then you would be better off using Vietnam Airlines due to its wide domestic and Asian regional network. So you can earn and redeem miles on Vietnam airlines as well as those of the Skyteam alliance.How frequently you fly?Some programs offer a lot of benefits and redeeming options but you have to accumulate much more miles for redemption and status upgrade. Choose the one based on your frequency of travel.Where you fly?If you fly to a specific destination frequently, then maybe choose an airline that belongs to an alliance. For example, if you frequently fly from Manila to Delhi, choose an airline such as Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways or Malaysia Airlines. Two of them belong to Star Alliance, whilst the third one belongs to the oneworld alliance.For example, if you fly from Jakarta to London- Singapore Airlines (SQ), Thai Airways (TG) and Malaysia Airlines (MH) require 50,000 Status Miles to get their gold status (including Star Alliance Gold for SQ and TG and Oneworld Sapphire for MH). However, Turkish airlines (TK) requires 40,000 Status Miles to earn and 25,000 Status Miles within one year or 37500 Status Miles within two years to maintain your status. So you might be better off flying Turkish airlines to London to get benefits like priority check-in, boarding, and lounge access over all airlines in the alliance. However, even though TK, SQ and TG are of the same alliance, you can earn miles and redeem them on each of the carriers but the catch is you cannot earn miles if you buy the lowest fares. Like if you’re enrolled in the TK program, you will earn miles for the cheapest TK flights you fly but not of SQ and TG. The same applies with the latter two carriers.Moreover, if you frequently fly to London and also destinations like Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur as well as Indonesian domestic destinations, then Garuda Miles program would be best for you.
