Letters are treated differently, both by readers and writers, in other parts of the world.]tl;dr: DON’T.Remind your professor that students have no idea how to write effective recommendation letters, and that student-written letters are far less effective/useful than letters written by faculty. A single poorly written letter can be the kiss of death for graduate admissions, for postdoc applications, for faculty searches, or for tenure applications. By asking you to write the letter, the professor is seriously jeopardizing your career.More generally: Admissions committees expect recommendation letters to be written by the person whose signature is on the bottom. In this context, signing a letter written by someone else is lying. Professors who earn a reputation for lying quickly lose any credibility or influence. By asking you to write the letter, the professor is jeopardizing the careers of everyone who lists them as a reference, even if the professor actually writes their letters.If they still insist that you write the letter, thank them for their time and find someone else who is willing to actually write a strong letter on your behalf.

99 percentile is a useless score*.Someone had to say that. You need to understand your target first. The person who said 99 is a good score knows nothing about CAT or admission criteria of IIM AC and to an extent IIML. Let's look at the cutoffs this year.IIM Calcutta first stage cutoffs(For general male with 81+ in 10th and 12th:99.51.For general female with 80+in 10th and 12th: 99.15.For rest check the link)IIMA shortilist out.Cutoff for general engineer: 99.67Acads didn't play a part this year for first stage.Now since you are serious for PGDM, I would recommend you to give one shot at CAT as well as XAT and this shot must be the best you can deliver. Aim for IIMAC and even if you don't get them, you might fall at FMS or IIM L or XLRI. And you will be very happy with this fall too.FMS and XLRI give no importance to anything apart from CAT and XAT score respectively for the first stage. They will open the doors for you. You just need to knock with power.About the regret part. What do you fear more? Failing after trying or failing without trying? You must be less than 25 now. Unless you have some serious responsibilities, I think you should go for it.You don't want to be the guy who says I could have got into the best B schools only if I had tried.All the best.*Statement applicable only to GEM targeting IIM ACL.

Let me tell you why I decided to choose AIIMS Kalyani over KEM Mumbai and Grant Medical College Mumbai.Less fees: Kem has annual fees of around 1 Lakh/year for general category candidate. Compare that to mediocre fees of AIIMS which is just 5000/year including hostel.Better Infrastructure: All of the AIIMS being Institutes of National Importance need to be maintained properly. And they have a tremendously better infrastructure than any of the state gmcs.Better Hostels: KEM Mumbai provides no hostel ( at least to the batch of 2020) where as AIIMS provides spacious rooms to all.A lot better Teaching: Teachers are quite interactive. And the faculty is one the best you can get all over India. No need to learn from Marrow. This is according to few seniors.Diversity: Students from all over the India come to AIIMS. Compare that to state college where only 15% students are from outside and most probably they will have their own group and you will not interact with themBiggest Myth regarding Aiims: No… opting for aiims doesn’t mean you are not eligible for state pg quota anymore. You are still eligible for state quota based on your domicile/residence at least in Maharashtra. (Edit : This is not applicable for every state. Do check official website for your state pg. It is applicable in Maharashtra as of 2020)Research: Aiims are more research oriented, than any other state college.Better prospect of devlopment: AIIMS being funded directly by center has a faster chance of devloping and that too with a rapid pace.AIIMSONIAN Tag: Depends how important that tag is for you. For me it wasn't that important. But yes, then you are an AIIMSonion for your whole life.No bond: AIIMS dont have any bond conditions. Compared to KEM which has 1 or 2 years of bond, depends which year you are taking admission in.Considering that everything except patient load is better in AIIMS than in state colleges, I chose AIIMS. And patient load is expected to only increase day by day due to better facilites and nominal fees for patients too.
