For all of the tax years for which there was a Form 1040 EZ (1982 to 2017), it was not possible to itemize deductions. For tax years 1982 through 1986, a 1040-EZ filer could take an additional deduction for charitable contributions, but this was eliminated in 1987.And, of course, Form 1040-EZ doesn’t exist for tax years 2018, 2019, or 2020. Since 2018, all filers have had the option to itemize deductions, as there is now only one tax form for personal income tax, Form 1040.
