I understand that Quora has to pay the bills, and that means advertising and that’s what the new linked content is - it is links to content on external media sites – essentially advertisements for that content and those sites.But it is horrible and it is making my already sad feed even sadder. It desperately needs curation.The “Top Stories” feed is where I should be seeing all of the wonderful content written by the people I have chosen to follow - the content that makes Quora Quora. Instead, I see tabloid clickbait crap like this:And these:And this:And this:This crap befouls the credibility of Quora as a “knowledge site”. My feed looks more &$%^$% Buzzfeed than a site where people go to learn things.The “Top Stories” feed is supposed to be where we can go to read the best content submitted by Quora users. Here is how my “Top Stories” feed breaks down:Almost half of the content in my “Top Stories” feed isn’t even stories - it’s questions. There should never be a single question in the “Top Stories” feed. There is an entire “Answer” feed for displaying questions, and yet 46% of the content in my feed is just questions, making it harder for me to find content to read.Twenty-two percent of the content in my “Top Stories” feed is content provided by the new “Links” feature. It’s clickbait crap of absolutely no value to me. Again, I understand Quora has to pay its bills - but they should be doing a far, far better job filtering the “Links” content so that it actually reflects the type of content that represents Quora.Thirteen percent of my “Top Stories” feed comes from stuff the people I follow have upvoted. This is acceptable content, because I follow only people that have decent taste. If they think something is worth reading, it probably is, but it’s not the primary reason I’m here.Only eleven percent of my “Top Stories” feed is actually what I should be seeing in that feed. Eleven percent of my “Top Stories” feed is content written by the people I chose to follow. Those people are the whole reason I click on “Top Stories” and at barely more than ten percent of the feed, that means I am scrolling past nine unwelcome items to get to one item I asked to see.And nine percent of the content comes from topics that Quora’s algorithms think I might like. That’s a worthwhile feature, but the algorithm doesn’t know me from Adam. It rarely recommends something that interests me.I just want a feed where I can actually read the stuff written by the best writers on Quora. Is that really too much to ask?

Trust me when I say, “I have done everything I wanted to.”I have had the best experiences in life so far. From being a state topper in Xth standard, topping the merit list for NDA, passing out as the best cadet in flying, flying an armed aircraft at low levels at insane speeds, writing a novel and seeing it top the charts, travelling solo wherever I have wanted to, gaining recognition and respect across various platforms and events.And at the same time I have been a patient of depression for more than two years, ran away from things that meant everything to me, got my heart broken, was cheated on and have fallen prey to a lot of impulsiveness.Contentment came in parts along the way, but it never really stayed until I changed how I perceived life’s purpose. I have seen days where I didn’t have a penny in my pocket to days where people were ready to pay me just to come and talk to me.I have realised that the only way you can be content in life is by giving back to your roots and sources. People who have stood by you, your parents, your friends, you need to stand up and take their responsibility. That is the first step.Of course, most of us do this but what matters even more is giving back to the society and to your field.No, I am not asking you to donate money and join some NGO to help a cause. You can do that if you are willing. You will find that just like you there are a million people out there trying to find a purpose and a guide in their life. In your spare time, help a few children, a few lost ones in their youth or just be a good listener to someone in dire pain.I know the world does not deserve such deeds, but that is exactly where lies our contentment. A ‘Thank You’ note from someone you helped a year ago will be much more worth than your 95% in boards.Isn’t that exactly the problem nowadays? People search for contentment everywhere only to realise it had been around them all this while.Trust me, there is nothing like a smile on someone’s face that originates from your deeds. The high paying job, the pouted selfies, the chic brands and all the fake following will vanish one day.Someone will only remember how kind you were to them when no one else was. In that, lies your contentment.
