Let your Landlord (“LL”) know that Peter Pan may not be flying off into the Moon when the lease ends and that you can’t control him but wanted to give LL a heads up, and that you plan to leave, as per your agreement. Make sure you put this notice to your LL IN WRITING preferably via certified mail, or something that shows proof that your LL received it. Follow up with a call, make sure you talk to someone, even if just to say exactly what your letter says. Ultimately, if you've given your LL notice of the possible Holding Over (means staying without permission, outside of agreed term) of your co-tenant, ahead of time (the more time you give them, the better, so put your letter in the mail ASAP), even if (and this is a worst-case scenario thing, so don’t get too upset at this point) you were taken to court, you have the proof that you had given fair warning and you can’t be held responsible for Peter Pan. Unless your name is Wendy…? Just kidding! Most LL’s will appreciate the warning.Best bet: get your LL to provide a WRITTEN response, acknowledging your intent to exit upon lease expiration and releasing you from any further obligation beyond November 30. This would be fantastic. Draft a letter for them to sign, even. Chances are that your LL has its own form for this (we do), but that’s okay, it shows you tried. PUT EVERYTHING IN WRITING and write down anything that wasn’t in writing (phone calls, etc.). Better safe than sorry.Good luck & Be Blessed!K

And then decided enough was enough.For some reason–a reason I cannot recall still to this day–I volunteered at a senior center. I went once, but the experience change my life forever.So what’s the one trick to improve your life forever?RegretI met a woman named Gertrude, who lived a simple life on the East coast. Her family moved her to the Midwest, so she could be closer to them, and they could help take care of her. She lived on her own, but she was quickly being considered for full-time assisted living.When we first met, she was quiet. She had nothing much to say. I was just some twenty-something kid who decided to feel good about volunteering an hour or two with some old people.We sat in silence for nearly thirty minutes. I noticed a bracelet on her wrist, beneath her sweater sleeve.“What’s that?”She rolled her eyes at me, as if to say, you wouldn’t understand.I persisted.She told me, “It’s a charm bracelet.”“Interesting. Note: I am writing this from my personal experience.The visa officers at the US embassy in every country do not have behave the same way. I once tried to apply from Singapore and in a matter of 5 questions my application was instantly rejected. So this is how it went:Officer: Good morning sir , may i have your documents?I handed over the docsOfficer : So how long have you been working in “My Company” ?Me : 2 yearsOfficer: So you graduated from NTU? Is that right?Me : Yes SirOfficer : So may i know your purpose of visit to the united states?Me : I am planning a vacation trip to meet my sister and catch up with my university friends.Officer: May I know what does your sister do in the US?Me : She works for Google (Mistake #1)Officer : How long do you intend to stay in the US?Me : 14 daysOfficer: Do you have intention to settle down in the US?Me : No. I am happy working here so I don’t intend to settle down there.Officer : Okay. So your monthly salary at your company is $$$$?Me : Yes thats correct.2 mins silenceOfficer : I am sorry but i cannot permit you to enter into the US. Please refer to this form(Slides in a form with some guidelines)After some analysis I came to understand that he has decided my rejection on the following factors:My age: I was 25 then.My years of work experience : 2 yearsA blood relative who works for a big organization.By adding all these , he decided that I was a potential immigrant who would go on a pretext of vacation and end up finding a job there. And also he must have felt that I don’t have permanent tie or connection in Singapore that would guarantee him that I would come back and so he was not convinced. This was also mentioned in the guidelines he handed over to me.P.S : I noticed there are some comments from people calling this anecdotal and totally disagreeing with me by saying they were able to secure a visa for themselves and their whole family. Well congratulations folks!! But the question is HOW WAS YOUR VISA REJECTED and I have just stated a personal experience and some observations from my side.
