If you are collecting UC because you are off due to a lack of work, it will take about 18 days to get your first payment. This will hold true, if you open your claim on the 1st day of the week you wish to begin claiming.If you open your claim on the 5th day of the first week you wish to claim, it will take 13 days to get your first payment.This is barring any errors with your debit card or direct deposit, or if a holiday is involved within the week you file for your payments.If you are not working because you quit, or were discharged, it will depend on how quick your employer gets the separation information back to the UC Service Center, and when you gave your separation information to the Service Center, AND only if you are APPROVED to receive those benefits because of the nature of your separation.For instance, you quit your job on a Wednesday, and call the Service Center that day to open a claim, and to give information on the who, what, why, where and how of your quit. Again, the same deadlines for claimant or employer rebuttal responses apply. Rebuttals are usually done via a phone call, so if an employer or claimant cannot be reached with a phone call, 48 hours is given for them to call the examiner back to give rebuttal information. The case is tickled for 3 days after the phone call.The number of rebuttal attempts is the state's call, and this number can change according to the wants and needs of the state. If claims are really high, rebuttal attempts may be a one time thing. An exact number of days cannot be given if there is a separation issue. It is impossible, and Service Centers will usually say it may take 6 to 8 weeks to get a decision......also, keep in mind, benefits may be DENIED, and nothing will be received in the way of payments. The most important thing is to remember to file bi-weekly for your payments to be pended, even though you won't be receiving them until you get an approval in the form of a determination letter. If you are denied, the payments will be cancelled, BUT keep filing if you plan to appeal. Winning an appeal will get all the payments you filed for re-instated and released to you.The Service Center may approve your benefits, but the employer can appeal. If you receive a hearing notice, be certain to attend. If you do not go to a hearing that your employer files, you will not be there to give testimony. Just because the Service Center approved you does not mean the eligible decision will be entered as evidence. It won't mean a thing. You must appear and give first hand testimony of your separation. If a hearing reverses your eligible decision, you will be stopped from collecting, and an overpayment will be written to recoup the benefits you have already received.So.....please don't call your Service Center and demand to know when your determination will be written. It just doesn't happen overnight! When giving your separation information to the Service Center, answer every question fully, with names, dates, office policies, etc. Be certain to give a good phone number in case you need to be contacted.....and when you speak to a representative, remember to jot down the date of the call, the office and name of the person you are speaking with.
