Do not worry peeps, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos claimed the other day that “only” 0.02% of children will probably die as a result of schools re-opening. That’s “only” 14, 750 children, so no sweat, amirite?to put that number in perspective; That’s about 40 times the number of school shooting victims from the last ten years!So teachers are now responsible for defending against murderers with guns AND for preventing the transmission of a highly contagious virus for which there is no vaccine? Interesting... What exactly has Senator Kennedy ever done to protect children?This haughty gaslighting from Kennedy and the GOP is ridiculous. Exactly no one wants schools to stay closed as some kind of political strategy. Furthermore, Kennedy’s doing exactly what he’s accusing Democrats of. It is they who want to use kids to sacrifice their lives as a poltical pawn. The GOP is literally a death-cult.And tell me again how it makes sense to re-open our schools??Exactly! What makes a benevolent dictator is for the one in power to put the needs of the people first and themselves second.That said, one of these examples wasn’t even a ruler on a national level, but instead the defacto dictator of a U.S State. That man was Huey Long, the defacto dictator of Louisiana.Huey Long was born to a poor family in the US State of Louisiana, which at the time was one of the least developed in the country. The poor rural population that Huey was born to made up 60% of it’s population. Louisiana was also ranked the lowest in literacy with 75% being unable to read and write.During 1928, Huey Long was able to tap into that resentment and become Governor of Louisiana. He was only able to recieve the plurality with 43.9% of the votes. That was because of the poll taxes and literacy tests could only let 300,000 people being able to vote.His slogan was “Every man a King, but no one wears a Crown.”With him in office, Long was dedicated to improve the lives of the poor of Louisiana.He made textbooks for Elementry Schools free while also expanding the funds for public education.He made night classes to make those of all ages to be able to read and write, teaching over 100,000 to become literate.He bulit multiple hospitals across Louisiana and provided free immunizations to nearly 70 percent of the population.Before Long, Louisiana had 331 to 2,301 miles (533 to 3,703 km) of paved roads, with the rest being dirt and gravel.After Long, Louisiana gained 9,700 miles (15,600 km) of new and paved roads.But what made him a defacto dictator was his use of intimidation tactics to pass his reforms, as well with hiring top loyalists as well.Despite being a governor of the Jim Crow South, his programs also helped the state’s African American population as well through his education reforms.He’s even quoted with saying,“I'm for the poor man — all poor men, black and white, they all gotta have a chance. They gotta have a home, a job, and a decent education for their children. 'Every man a king' — that's my slogan.”“Now, just a word about the poor Negroes … They're here. They've got to be cared for … The poor Negroes have got to live, too.”In fact, the Ku Klux Klan hated him for even giving African Americans the benefits of the reforms that the poor white people were getting.Huey Long believed in Share our Wealth which was to redistribute the wealth of the wealthiest Americans to the poor and homeless of the Great Depression.He became a Senator with 57% of the vote, while putting a puppet as Governor of Louisiana.As senator, he supported FDR’s New Deal in its early stages but came to believe that it didn’t go far enough to help the poor people of America.Huey Long was planning to become President of the US but was assassinated in 1935.Whether Huey Long would’ve became a great President or had simply died a hero before he could become the villian is up for debate.
