Narayana MurthyIn Oct 2016, I was travelling from Bangalore to Mumbai. I boarded the plane, put my hand bag in overhead bin and took my aisle seat. There was an old person in a normal suit sitting next to me on the window seat. I had a presentation in Mumbai, so I didn’t bother who was and wasn’t sitting next to me.I took my documents and started going through them for the final time before the presentation. The plane took off. After 15–20 minutes I was done with my documents, so I put them away and started flipping the pages of the airline magazine randomly and after sometime I looked out of the window and suddenly I looked at the face of this person sitting next to me. I thought I have seen him somewhere.I looked closely. He was old, his face was dull, the suit was not very expensive or something and he was replying to some mails or going through some documents or something, I exactly don’t know. I noticed his shoes, they were average quality. Tie, it was also OK-OK. I thought for sometime and I again got busy with my phone. While I was busy doing something random. Something stuck me and I looked at him again and I asked him, “Are you Mr. Narayana Murthy?”He looked at me, smiled and replied, “Yes, I am.” And he turned to his phone again.I was shocked! For one second I had no idea what to say next. I looked at him again. His shoes, his suit, his tie and his specs. Everything was average. This guy was worth $2.3 Billion and co-founded Infosys. I was stunned. I always wanted to become super rich so that I can buy all the luxury and business class and he could buy the whole airlines and yet he was sitting next to me in economy class!I again asked, “Why are you travelling in economy class and not business class?”He asked, “Do Business class people reach early?”I smiled and told myself, “What a dumb question, Mayank!”And then introduced myself, “Hello sir! My name is Mayank Gupta and I am a freelance corporate trainer and I work with many MNCs PAN India.”He then put his phone away and started listening to me, he also asked few questions and answered the questions I asked. We both went down deep into the conversation until I asked a question which was about to change my life entirely.Sir, “You are so successful and have made so many good decisions in your life. Is there something you regret?” I questioned.He got intense look on his face, thought for a while and answered,“Sometimes my knee hurts, I should have taken better care of my body. When I was young I was so busy working that I never got time to take care of myself and now even if I want to work more, I can’t. My body doesn’t permit.”“You are young. You are smart and ambitious but don’t repeat the mistake I made. Take proper care of your body and take proper rest. This is the only body you have got!” He again said.That day I learned two things, one that he told me and another that he showed me!The body is the only place where we will ever live.Being rich is not about owning things.After that we had some discussions about the corporate, role of govt. in economic development and etc. But I had got what I needed. After sometime the flight landed, I accompanied him till the luggage area, took this selfie and his blessings. And then we parted. What a great and down to earth human being he is, no doubt he is so successful!

When I was in the college, there were no cell phones and no cameras. Anyone who wanted to get a photograph clicked, they had to go to a studio.After our B.Sc. final year exams, all my friends thought of taking a photo.We decided the date, studio and time. That was five or six days after the exams.Everyone's house was not that far except mine.I had to change two buses to reach that studio.On that day, I left my house by an hour early. But unfortunately there was not even a single bus for almost forty five minutes in the first bus stop.Even at second bus stop there were no buses for forty minutes.I was already late by half an hour when I reached second bus stop.“They might have taken the photo and gone home” I thought.That thought made me sad. I thought of returning home from the second stop.But there was a small hope that stopped me from returning.Anyhow I reached the studio one and a half hours late.To my surprise, all the girls were waiting there for me. Tears rolled down my eyes seeing all of them there, waiting for me.There was no ‘candid shot’ concept in those days. Typical group photos would be like this:I am the left most(in the photo) girl. The small girl in the middle is the sister of my friend standing beside me.That was my happiest day with my friends.

30th June 2016,our first anniversary.I was in college when I heard my phone ringing, it was from her.She- Come home as soon as possible,its urgent.Me- I will be there in just a minute(My college is very near to her house),be safe I am coming.She- Yea come soon please.I knew it wasn’t something urgent, I know when she is lying and when she is not. Still I was in a hurry because I knew she had something for me.When I reached her house, she blindfolded me with her hands, took me to her room and closed the door.I was surprised when I saw this,The next thing I knew was that she was in my arms. I kissed her on her forehead, cried of happiness. She knew how surprised I was. It just made my day.I did not expect it at any cost because her fathers office is very near and he visits in the afternoon daily. It was a very high risk but still she managed to do it by taking such a high risk just to make me happy and to see the smile on my face. I was overwhelmed by her surprise.Her parents never give her pocket money, still she saved 5–10 rupees whenever she could and bought the things and ordered the cake.The story behind ‘Happy Birthday’ tag is as follows-She had a very bad past behind her, she had tons of bad memories, when I met her, she says she got a new life, the day we met is the day she was born, so we celebrate her Birthday on 30th June itself. So it was her first birthday too. So the only candle justifies her first birthday.The day was awesome and this was the best gift she gave me.Second incident-24th December 2016, a day before Christmas.I am not from Nagpur so I live in the college hostel. It was early morning when I heard the song ‘Mistletoe’ sung by Justin Bieber on my phone and realized that it was an alarm tone. I was completely shocked because I never kept it.As soon I woke up, I saw this at the wall.I was shocked, and surprised too. I knew she has surprised me again. I quickly checked below my pillow and I found this,Behind the packing paper was this,She knew I needed the cable as the old one was about to die.As soon as I turned in excitement, I saw a note saying check below the bed.I found this,Behind the packing paper, were these,She knows I love Strawberry, so she gave me one. Then I found a note saying check your cupboard, Where I found this,Then a note said,find your bike keys,I searched for it,but could not find it, then searched again, and found this,Behind the packing paper I found this,Its me, holding her in my arms!:*Combining all of them,That’s all what she gave me,Everything that I was in need of, I loved the surprise and cried again of happiness.As I mentioned earlier, she didn’t have money, she did everything she could, walked 10 kms to save money and bought everything, packed everything herself.But then I wondered how did she do all this, it is a boys hostel so she could not even enter.That’s when I realized why my roommate was keeping track of my things where i put them, asked for my phones password the night before,kept the key of my cupboard,and what not.You don’t need to give expensive things, no need to go to expensive restaurants, you just need to do something from a clean heart, its enough to skip a beat.Trust me that was the best Christmas and the best morning I ever had; And surely the best gifts.I love her, a lot.Thank you for reading.EDIT-I thank all the readers for their blessings and wishes for us.
