“KUCH BHI"Like, SERIOUSLY!This has been our “classroom” for the last 2 weeks.And these 2 weeks of my life have revolved only around a few words-(These are what's app chats of different batch mates of my college…Names and numbers have been masked in white🙃)1.PptOH MY GOD!“IS THERE ANY AUDIO CLIP ATTACHED TO THE PPT?”and“WHY IS THE AUDIO CLIP NOT FUNCTIONING IN MY DEVICE?”are the MOST FAQs in the initial days of this “online learning program .“😆The reason being, in some devices they work well, while not so in others. A video/audio clip may play smoothly in laptops while not so in the android phones! The same may have to be opened via Google Drive else it won't work! You may have to download WPS OFFICE instead of MS OFFICE for a particular video to be played! How harsh can life be!!Now suppose a particular class has been uploaded at 10 am, and it has been told that the Assessment link would be given at 11.15 sharp(Most of the Assessments are taken in GOOGLE FORMS mode, others to be mailed). Now, we get a deadline of submitting the form within 15 minutes,i,e, 11.30, in this case.Now just imagine. Your audio/video clip isn't functioning…you try different techniques to solve the problem, and (fortunately) it's solved within 10.30 am. You get just 45 min which may not be sufficient to watch the full video and understand the entire topic! And suppose some questions come from the part you couldn't watch. What do you do? Ask your friends in the what's app group and copy the answers in the assessment !But is it ANY worth? By the time you finish watching that ppt(after submitting the assessment), another ppt of another subject gets uploaded on GOOGLE CLASSROOM! Such is our struggle!2. PdfUnderstanding a concept well by just reading the pdf is not possible!Actually some professors upload just pdfs in Google Classroom(due to technical anomalies),which is indeed not sufficient for us to understand some new topics. And shallow reading of pdfs is a BAD,BAD TECHNIQUE of study, more so in MBBS.Also,Pdfs of various books have been asked by students in various groups (yeah we have multiple groups in both What's app and Telegram 🥲). However, for being able to read them we need some solid time, which is utilized by just watching the recorded lectures, making notes, and solving Assessments which succeed each Lecture within a (very)short span of time.Although, in the last couple of days we are getting some more time to submit our assessments,some days we get even 4–5 lectures which minimize our time to watch a lecture fully and answer the assessment questions all on our own capability, thus decreasing our efficiency 😔🥲3. VideoYes. Some lectures are given in .mp4 format, instead of .ppt4.The inevitable fight of ONLINE vs OFFLINEYeah, we Badly want the offline classes to start. To meet our batchmates , our professors, to study together, visit the library, attend practical classes, laboratories , and most importantly, to break the shackles of physical and mental idleness.5. Assignment, AssessmentsNever before have “Assessments” created such a nuisance, at least till date!THE MOMENT a teacher informs us about her recently uploaded video/ppt in the official group of the corresponding subject, it gets forwarded to the unofficial group, which is immediately followed by a common request from my batchmates one after the other-“ADMINS, PLEASE ASK IN THE OFFICIAL GROUP WHEN WOULD THE ASSESSMENT BE GIVEN!”Much like this-The thing which is kinda funny as well as vexing is that, we are going through slides or videos or pdfs just to get through the Assessments. It's not benefitting us in enriching our knowledge, which rather should be the primary aim. Unless we get the time to sit with textbooks combined with adequate time for going through the lectures, making notes and most importantly reading the notes thoroughly, it will not help us in the long run.Of course, it was not intended to be so..the situation has imposed this on us. But then the fact that we are not being able to organize and coordinate a day's learning, because of the insufficient time given for each lecture is not helping is either.Apart from these, the sheer exposure to the android/laptop/tab screens THE ENTIRE DAY round(quite literally) is just worsening the situation, leading to headaches(as the bill comes due🙃).These may sound like complains, but yeah IT'S THE TRUTH! An offline class creates a stage for greater interaction with peers and professors, and a better scope to clear our doubts instantly, rather than forwarding doubts in the official group, waiting for the teachers to respond “in text form".Praying for a quick end to this “online learning program”…___________Pics courtesy: My phone gallery
