These all have very high markups.Secondly the invoice shows the price paid at the time of sale, but does not reflect any manufacturer incentives that are created to move slow selling inventory.And there are times when a dealer wants to get rid of a car that hadn't sold in order to replace it with a car that will sell faster. This is especially true if the dealer financed the buying of the car, and is paying interest monthly.There are also times when selling a certain number of vehicles will get the dealership bonuses or price reductions or other incentives from the manufacturer.U.S. manufacturers typically have a “hold back” which is a percentage of the invoice (3%-4%). Upon sale of that vehicle, the dealer bills the hold back to and is paid by the manufacturer.Edit to add. Someone suggested I add The dealer prints his own invoice. The dealer prints a bill of sale for the customer, but receives an invoice from the manufacturer. I have only seen invoices printed by the manufacturer, though I know the push is towards paperless documents. In any case what we are discussing is the manufacturer’s invoice to the dealer.

I had this discussiont with a propane company 20 years . My deed said all things on the property transfer at time of sale . There was no lien regarding the propane tank . The propane company ( National company ) claimed they owned the underground tank . I asked them for proof , a bill of sale from the manufacturer , and an invoice from when they installed it . Their response was that they dont keep records that long . So I told them since I have proof on my deed that all things on the property transfer to me , and they have no proof at all , the tank is my property . Now this all started when I canceled their service , BUT they quickly filled the tank and billed me some very high price per gallon . They said they could dig up the tank , leave the mess and I would be billed for everything . One letter from my attorney shut them down in their tracks . I used up the propane in the tank , didnt pay a dime , took a backhoe and removed the tank and sold it

I’m not an attorney but have an example from personal experience.In July 2014, my husband bought a 2013 Cadillac Escalade. We bought another 2013 Cadillac Escalade for me in August 2014 from the same dealership.The in service date for my husband’s truck was March 2013. The in service date for mine was November 2012. This date is important as it applies to the manufacturers new vehicle warranty. My husband and I were under the impression that these were both in service in 2013.Anyone who has owned an Escalade will know that they spend A LOT of time at the dealership having warranty related issues repaired.My truck was in for repair around the fall of 2016, and my service advisor informed me that the manufacturers warranty was about to expire in November and she asked me if I was interested in an extended warranty. I told her I would go home and discuss it with my husband. When I went home, I decided to check out the contract to verify because I didn’t realize the warranty was about to expire so soon. When i checked the contract, I was confused because the in service date on the contract said March 2013, so I should have had 4 more months left on the warranty.Turns out that the dealership had just copied and pasted info from the bill of sale from my husbands truck onto the bill of sale from my truck. They remembered to change all the pertinent details like vin number, colour etc. But they forgot to change the in service date.They said that this was a clerical error and not their problem. I said this was absolutely a problem because the truck was covered for maintenance like oil changes, tire rotations, air filter changes etc, while still under the new car warranty. An oil change on an Escalade at a dealership in Canada is about $80, $40 for a tire rotation, plus any defects that may show up could be costly and, I would be due for an oil change/tire rotation after the actual November in service date but before the March in service date on my contract. The dealership refused to admit any wrong doing on their part, so I contacted Cadillac head office. They ended up agreeing with me that the dealership incorrectly completed the contract so they were in fact liable for any maintenance and defects covered by the warranty until March 2017.Needless to say, I had my maintenance done as well as some other issues repaired and the dealership had to pay for the service.
