What's the most emotional phone call you've ever had?

12/15/2019 Update below my actual answerMy father called me at 9:14 AM on 11/11/17, my daughter’s 3rd birthday. I didn’t answer because I was playing with her and letting her eat Kit Kats in bed. That was a major deal because she had only had sweets a few times in her life. He left a voicemail.I got a call from his neighbor about 30 minutes later and I didn’t answer. She then texted that I needed to call her. She was hysterical when I called her and couldn’t understand what she was trying to say. So I hung up and called her husband, he told me there was an ambulance there and I needed to get over there and I asked him which hospital the ambulance was bringing him to and I would just meet them there. He told me I just needed to come there. I really didn’t think it would be anything serious but I still sped as fast as I could to get there. When I got there around 9:50 his dead end street had over 10 first responder vehicles there, including a fire truck, police vehicles, the ambulance and other police and fire SUV’s up and down the road. I had to park pretty far and just ran full speed to my dad’s. There were paramedics going in and out and 4 or 5 cops standing outside the door. I told them who I was, asked what happened and told them I wanted to go inside. The officer told me he was unresponsive when they arrived at 9:44 and I couldn’t go in because the paramedics were working on him. I sat outside with the cops and the neighbors. I was worried but was still joking around and still thought it couldn’t be anything serious. It took me about 15 minutes before I started putting it all together…..The ambulance was sitting in the driveway…..My dad wasn’t in the ambulance….Why wasn’t my dad on the way to the hospital….My dad should be on the way to the hospital……Why wasn’t he on the way to the hospital? Oh crap!I guess in the back of my mind I must have thought my dad was indestructible.Once I put it all together in my head and had my “oh crap” moment, I started to try to get into the house. They wouldn’t let me. I told (yelled & cried) them that if my dad was dying that I needed to be there with him and he needed to hear my voice!! They apologized and said I needed to let the paramedics “work” on him. I asked (yelled & cried) if they would want to die alone?!?! I got sympathetic looks, but no answer.I went through a couple of officers and got to the door where one officer was completely blocking the door. I was begging him to let me in. He told me that he couldn’t and softly told me, with kindness in his eyes, not to force him to have to restrain me. I knew if he could have, he would have let me in.At 10:14, exactly 1 hour after my dad called me, an officer came outside and kneeled in front of me and started to say he was sorry and I just said, “My dad’s dead?” And he nodded his head.My dad called 911 at 9:21 and they arrived at 9:44 and did the required 30 minutes of CPR, but he was already dead when they arrived.I finally listened to the voicemail that night:“ Mallory, I’m having a terrible time breathing. Come over please. I love you.”Update: It’s been a little over 2 years now and it is just as painful now and sometimes worse. A lot of comments have chastised me for not answering his call. It looks like most of the negative comments have been deleted or I just don’t know how to find them all. I have never done the actual “math” to determine if I would have gotten there before he actually passed. Upon rereading my answer, I don’t believe I have the accurate time of when I spoke with the neighbor on the phone, I believe it was sooner than 30 minutes later or I would not have arrived at 9:50. I just requested a phone billing statement for that month to see what time I actually spoke to the neighbor. If I answered his call at 9:14 and let’s say it was a 1 minute phone call and I was able to get my daughter to my mom and get in the car, it would have been 9:25. The drive is usually 16/17 minutes, I remember the traffic was unusually heavy for a Saturday morning, so it may have taken longer or it may just have felt that way due to the circumstances. So the best case scenario, and I am using the absolute best circumstances, I would have arrived at 9:41. We know for sure he was dead at 9:44.I couldn’t have done anything even if I had answered. I know that God saved me from a situation that would have caused a different kind of suffering that I may never have gotten over. Some may disagree with that, but logistically speaking, IF i would have answered the call, he probably wouldn’t have called 911 (although, I most likely would have) and IF I did get there, I would have found him already dead or dying and been able to do nothing except watch my dad die and being completely helpless and the worst possibility is my dad would have watched me trying to do something, anything to save him and the last thing he would have seen is the agony, helplessness and pain on my face, he would NEVER want that for me or him. I don’t think I would have been “comforting” in that situation. If I would have been there with him while the EMT’s were working on him and he was still alive, I would have been in a different situation and maybe I would have been a comfort, but I also did not realize that he had already died at 9:44. So, when I was fighting to get inside, he had already passed.

Have you ever come back to your vehicle only to find something quite unexpected?

A BABY BEAR CUB! WHAT???!!!The other day I was outside getting ready to clean my car. I left the driver’s side door open and went back in the house for something and got sidetracked for a few minutes. I remembered that I left my door open so I went out and shut it because I needed to do something else for a moment and then I’d go back to cleaning. I heard a commotion and looked inside my car. You can imagine my shock when suddenly I was looking into the eyes of a black bear cub. I have attached a picture. The glare is terrible but if you zoom in you can see better.*** UPDATE***Our little bear cub was rescued Tuesday 9/14/20. The Dept. of Fish and Game came out to my house and they were able to get the cub into a kennel. The little one is now at the Anchorage Zoo. They will make sure the cub is in good health and then the cub will travel on to Baraboo, Wisconsin. I am not sure if the cub is male or female.. my husband and I think female… just a hunch. I will be following the little one’s journey and will continue to update this answer. I will add a video of the cub eating berries as well. The cub really gets Into grabbing the branches. It’s super cute! Well not sure how to add a video so here are more pictures.

What are some of the phrases that NPD repeat during an argument?

I didn't say that, you did.Why do you always try to start something when I'm doing something important? (playing a video game)Do you sit around thinking up things to piss me off?Why are you so insecure? You are always trying to push my buttons. You know I have a bad memory. This is just some more of your bulls**t based on nothing. You have no clue what you're talking about. It's impossible to reason with you. I'm outta here. Call me when you're ready to apologize.I don't show you any affection? If I was Hawaii, you would be Antarctica. You are so petty.I'm not the liar, you are.You just want me to be your puppet.Am I not allowed to have a friend? You are the most possessive person I have ever known.I'm not selfish, you are.It must be awesome to never believe you're wrong.I'm sorry that you are irritated by the truth.I never asked you to buy me that. You forced me to take it.What do you mean “I am a narcissist?” You're the f**king narcissist. And here is my personal favorite. After I left in the middle of his rant, this is the text he sent me:When a narcissist can't come up with anything else to say, that is their go to phrase: “Believe what you want!”
