What should I read for IBPS PO Interview going to be held on 17th January 2016?

Many candidates struggle to find a way to ace an interview, as it gives that final push to your selection in a Bank Exam. I have summarized few key points to help you get through this final barrier.Part 1:The first part of this answer is about basic things that can be the deciding factors, as an Interview is as mush about your knowledge as it is about the presentation and impression you make on the interviewer. Hence, its important that you understand these things as well. How should you look?Be neat and clean (Clean shaven, trimmed hair, clean and trimmed nails)Ironed formal shirt (a coat and tie, if possible), trousers and polished shoesNeither you should smell nor you should use a very strong perfume/deodorantHow to start?Ask permission to come inShake hands with the panel (if they are in your reach), introducing yourselfAsk permission to sit downOffer them a copy of your bio-data each and your certificates, if anyCarry a pen, some blank paperHow should you sit?Sit straight, slightly leaning to the front (it shows your attentiveness), with hands on the table (in front of you) or on your lap (if there is no table)Make eye contacts and smile occasionallyYou can use your hands while explaining things, it makes your explanation more expressiveYou can sit cross-legged or in a simple position, depends upon your comfortWhat interviewers are looking for?Clarity of thoughtsConfidence in your knowledgeHonestyGood communication skillsGood work ethicsSeriousness about jobWho should start the interview?Don’t wait for them to start, if they don’t ask anything within 5 seconds, you can start introducing yourselfPart 2:The second part of this answer discusses the types of questions asked and ways to approach them. It is important that you rehearse answers to these questions beforehand1. Tell Me About yourselfThis is a very important question in any interviewWhy this question is so important? It gives interviewer topics to ask you questions, hence, you can direct your interview in the direction you want toTo see how articulate and confident you are and what type of impression you will make on your first meetingAlso to understand what you think is important to know about youThe Wrong Approach:Asking the interviewer, what he wants to know. The Right Approach:Focus on what most interests the interviewer (focus on the areas you think are relevant and will prove your candidature for the job). The interviewer wants to know if you can do the job, that you fit into the team and how can you help the organizationHighlight your most important accomplishments. In other words, you want to be selling what the buyer is buyingYou can tell a story about your natureFor example, if you tell an interviewer that people describe you as tenacious, provide a brief story that shows how you have been tenacious in achieving your goals. Stories are powerful ways to convey a messageThings that you can cover:About yourself, Background, Education, Strength/Weaknesses, Role Model, Career Goal, Example of leading a team, Example of being a team player (However, elaborate only the one’s you are confident about and skimming through rest of the things)2. Your hobbiesExample1: (Photography) Effect of digital equipment on photography and some basic concepts of photography, nomenclatureExample2: (Reading) Recent book you read (questions around it), your favorite authors (names of their books), popular awards in writingExample3: (Sports) Basic rules, famous players, national team, won tournaments3. Specific details (technical or general) questions related to your Extracurricular, Job Experience, any other experienceExample1: Can ask some foreign language words (If you mentioned some other language in the biodata form)Example2: What is 6sigma, how this formula is derived and its significance in manufacturing industry (If you have work experience of Manufacturing Industry) or questions related to Assembly line and processes involvedExample3: Technical definitions, theorems (Conversion of degree Celsius to other forms, Rules of Thermodynamics, Engines. Electricity, Circuits etc. based upon your graduation stream)4. Career objectivesLong and short term goals (This is where you talk about your expectations from a job)What is a good job? That pays you good salaryInvolves work that you likeTeaches you things to make you a better personEquips you to take you forward in your careerGains respect for your work and you as an individualSo your answer will be, to find a job that fits all the above parameters (this is your long term goal) as you will be spending half of your life working in a job, and it’s very important that you find the right job.And your short term goal is to keep trying new things unless you find one with all the above parameter.5. Will you leave this job, if given a better offer?Yes, if that job gives me a better chance at achieving the above mentioned things (many people will tell you to say that you will never leave this job, but in my suggestion, interviewer is smart enough to know that you are lying.6. Your knowledge of the current job profile, and reasons for joiningYou should know the work profile of a Probationary Officer, his role, powers etc.You should be able to explain how your past experiences (Education/ Work/ Extra Curricular) have made you realized the this is what wanted to do all the time and how that knowledge will help you work in a better wayThe reason cannot be that this is a stable, good paying job that’s why you are joining it (they want candidates who like the work and not the money it offers or stability or social status if provides)7. Knowledge of Banking Industry (in general), Economic news etcHistory and general knowledge questions on Bank that you are appearing forRoles and functioning of a BankProducts and Schemes of BanksWho’s who of Banking IndustryTerminologiesBasic DefinitionsCurrent Banking and Economy related news8. Current AffairsThis is a general way to approach, but if you read this through you will be able to understand which direction of answer fits in your case. I have also summarized Important Questions for Personal Interview. These will give you more clarity. I hope this helps you.

How do I get articleship at a Big Four CA firm?

This response is written considering my own experience -Submission stage:Firstly, check out your college placement cell/ club. Usually, these clubs invite Big4 and other mid-size firms for lectures etc in college. They may also ask you to send your CV to their email ID and they they will send all the collected CVs in bulk to the firms. You can also check out the Big4 websites for email IDs to send your CV personally. Or you can use your connections (if you have any) to get an interview call. (I got an interview call due to Podar's placement cell which was super useful). This leads to the most important part - CV/ Biodata/ Resume. Your CV should be professional. No colourful stickers, frames and pictures. It should be neat, well-alligned, well-distributed and conscise. No one will want to read a five pager story for a mere intern position.Your CV should firstly give out the following -Your personal details like name, date of birth, gender, communication address, telephone and email IDEducational qualification from SSC to the latest exam given along with year of passing and the marks/ grade/ percentage recieved. Tabular form is most appropriate.Previous work experience, if any.Extra curricular achievements. Not to be confused with 'hobby'. This is space for any certificate, prizes or trophies won. (In my case, I have won a number of speech giving/ elocution / extempore/ story telling competitions in school/ college/ district level)Hobbies. This also needs to be precise. For example, if your hobby is photography then that's all you need to write. No need for eloquent writeups on why you like photography or what camera you use or how much you love photography. You can obviously add multiple hobbies. Use point form or commas instead of lengthy passages.Other achievements. This is space for what you have achieved other than certificates or trophies. For example, if you have published photos in some magazine or if you have conducted music concerts etc (In my case, I have had articles published in school/ college/ third party magazines and even in TOI)Languages known. English is a must. Then any other languages you know. You need to clarify clearly the degree of your proficiency in a particular language. For example : “Read, write and speak - English, Hindi, Marathi. Speak only - Tamil, Malayalam. Have learnt German for two years in college.” This is how I wrote in my CVLastly, but never to be forgotten, is your proficiency with computer and computer programs like MS Office, Tally, etc. Be clear but honest. If you only know the basics, then clearly mention - basic working knowledge in MS Office 2017 and Tally version -.-Font should not be too big but not too small. 10/11 should be fine. Wherever you have tabulated information (like educational qualifications) use solid, thick frames. Always Bold and Underline the subject like - Name. A CV written wholly in CAPITAL and BOLD looks pretty bad. Make sure you leave one space after every category but the space size shouldn't be too muchPre-interview stage:You may either receive a call or an email or both. Make sure you confirm the details with respect to the date, timing and place of interview. In my case, I got a call with the HR saying they will send an email but they never sent me any email. In the end, I got an HR number from another friend of mine and call them back to reconfirm. You need to be up to date with whatever amendments that have come out. And this is not IPCC exam where you are given - IT act amended upto this-this date. So even if there had been an amendment a day before interview, you need to be aware of it. I suggest start reading financial newspapers like economic times, money times and magazines like capital market atleast two weeks prior to your interview. Also read the student journals that come because they often carry important articles and discussions on new amendments, audit techniques etc.English is always preferred. The interviewers will make sure you are fluent in English. This means conversing in English as much as possible. Though as Indians, it's almost impossible not to add a few words or sentences in our local language, but for majority of conversations, clean and correct English is to be used. If you are unsure of your conversation skills, I suggest talking in English with your family, friends and anyone you meet atleast a week before the interview. This will also boost up your confidence.Interview day -Always carry extra copies of your CV, certificates, marksheets etc. It's possible that you may spill something on one copy or it may get wet in the rain. Sometimes, you may be asked to submit another copy to another department. I had a friend who gave interview for Audit department. However, she was told right after, that there were no vacancies in the audit department but some available in the tax department. Since she carried extra copies, she was able to give the tax department all her documents. Also carry your interview call email/ message as this will be checked.Humans are visual creatures. So you need to be well dressed, neat and tidy. Formal clothes is a must - Western or Indian does not matter. It should be washed and pressed a day before the interview, no creases and no stale stains on your clothes. Beards are a big no-no in the service industry. Clean shaven is the way to go! Ofcourse formal does not mean extreme clothes like tie and suit and jacket. Formal shirt and trousers/ skirts or kurta-leggings is fine. Do not neglect appearances.Make sure you reach the place of interview atleast 15–20 minutes before time. Most of the offices are in pretty high-end buildings and entrance would require making a temporary ID card and stuff which takes time. Also, the HR may collect your CV and have you fill a basic form which will then be sent to the interviewers. This will also take time.Pay attention to whoever is calling out names. Sometime, you may not be able to hear what he/she is saying due to the noise/ distance but it's possible that if you do not arrive once your name is called, he/she may send you packing.Talk to those around you. Get to know them, the department for which they are interviewing, whether they have given an interview before or if they know someone who has given interviews before. Also, once someone's interview is done, make sure you ask them what were the questions asked etc. This is especially useful in the first (personal) and the second (technical) interview rounds. Most of the times, the questions asked are repetitive.During interview -Usually, the procedure followed is : Written test, group discussion, personal interview with HR, technical interview with Manager and final interview with the director.Personal interviews are easiest since most of the questions asked are based on what you have written on your CV. So make sure you are able to substantiate whatever you have written.Technical are tricky. We study with the intention to simply pass. But this won't hold true in real life jobs. Your knowledge will be tested.Final round is usually a mixture of personal and technical. Mostly, the director will check out your compatibility with your team/ department. Make sure you put your best foot forward.A common advice. Be sure to think properly and answer. Do not be in a rush to answer as fast as you can and then screw up. Be careful and clarify your points. In my case, I was asked how I would save capital gains tax for someone who has sold a house. I simply responded with sections numbers - using section 54 or 54F etc. But then the interviewer asked me - I am the client, I don't know what this section means. The fact that the interviewer had to ask me again to clarify is actually pretty bad form. So don't simply rattle out section numbers. It's ok if you pause or take a deep breath or take a little time to answer.Don't lie. If you don't know then clearly respond - I am sorry but I don't think I have knowledge on this topic. Or if you know something but are not sure then - I am not sure but I think this is what blah blah blah. Most common question asked is strength and weakness. Be clear but do not boast about yourself. And for weakness, do not respond with something like - I am afraid of spiders! Or I don't like heights! Or I have no weaknesses! (This is impossible). You can either honestly speak out (the way I did) - I take a little more time to get along with people which means I have trouble in the beginning with team work but I am sure that in your company/ firm, I will learn to take lead and become an excellent team member that everyone can rely on! Or if you do not want to speak about your weakness you can say something like - I don't believe I have faced my weakness till date.Last but not the least, keep a tranquil and calm mental state of mind. Stress and nervousness will lead to silly mistakes. A lot of things can go wrong in the interview. In my case, I believed I was giving interview for corporate or individual tax. Unfortunately, the first question asked was “What is transfer pricing?” As you know, IPCC does not deal with international taxation or transfer pricing or anything like that. I was blank and the manager spent almost 15 minutes just explaining to me what transfer pricing is. Ofcourse he did ask other questions, but it was pretty obvious that he was from the transfer pricing department and I was woefully unprepared for it.This actually brings me to the final part. Do not ever loose hope. After my interview, I asked an HR executive when will I be informed of the results. And she quiet straight away told me - I don't think you will be selected. This devastated me and I moped around in the house. But then after a couple of days I got an interview call for the final round! And I got selected too!Hope this helps. All the best!
