A human can survive a single bite. However the human doesn't necessarily return to a normal existence afterward.Pain is relative: I doubt you'd feel a thing if a big cat decided to take you out. Big cats are not like canids or bears.A wolf pack or a bear will simply tear a person apart. Often they attack the animal's abdomen, and eviscerate the victim. Death can be prolonged and painful.Big Cats are different. They go for the throat, and they basically strangle/suffocate their victim within 30 seconds by crushing the trachea (windpipe).Siegfried and Roy (pictured above) were the most popular act in Las Vegas, performing magic at the Mirage Hotel, with white lions and tigers. Until they didn't.In October, 2003, a seven year-old white tiger named Montecore grabbed Roy by the throat and dragged him across the stage during the show. Roy almost died. He never fully recovered.Even as he was bleeding out, Roy insisted that the tiger was not to blame for his injuries. They placed dark sunglasses over her blindfold so that she would appear in the pictures as a willing participant. They posed her several times with the taller of the two suspects in the dining alcove of her condominium and threatened to make the photographs public if the authorities were called.They called her father, who had just pulled into the driveway of his home. Wynn described how he returned to the Mirage Hotel and Casino, walked up to a cashier's window and listened to ransom instructions on his phone.Calling himself Voss, one of the kidnappers demanded $2.5 million, at which point Wynn became angry and argued about how much cash the casino kept in its vault--$1.45 million in $100 bills on that particular night--and how he could get access to it."It was new money stacked there like bricks," he said of the white plastic bag he was eventually given in full sight of the casino guests. "It was very dense. It was heavy. . . . I held it like a baby with my arms around it" and walked through the hotel to his car.He was instructed to drive to Sonny's Saloon, a block from the Mirage. He could not do so because of a degenerative eye disease, so an employee dropped off the money.After the ransom was delivered, Steven Wynn was given directions on how to find his daughter in the parking lot at McCarran International Airport, where she was left unharmed after midnight in her black, late-model Audi.Two friends had met him there in a separate car, but he insisted on going up to Kevin's Audi alone. "Whatever I was going to find in the car, it was going to be me doing it," he said. "But after three steps, I couldn't do it. I was so mortified. I called her name. 'Kevin.' From the back seat of the car, she said, 'Dad, is that really you?' "One defendant was arrested a few days later trying to pay cash for a Ferrari. The other was found in St. Louis. Both were convicted and sentenced to 25 years and 20 years respectively.

Their last hours of life were the stuff of nightmares. Imagine how you would feel if you were a parent of the girl knowing how she slowly suffocated to death in a garbage dumpster.2019 or not, evil exists. It is all around us.I went to a fabulous Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas at the Mirage hotel. It was incredible. Weeks later on the local news they reported finding a missing girl had been found dismembered and placed in barrels of hardened concrete in the garage of a vacant home. It turned out the killer was her boyfriend who was in the Cirque du Soleil show I had watched and at one point I was less that 20 feet from the murderer.One day I went to my bank and discovered it had been robbed at gunpoint and was a crime scene.Another time a local gas station I frequent, had been the site of a shootout.Now all of these events happened over the span of years, but they DID happen.How many times do our paths cross with someone who is capable of such violence and we never know it? If we are lucky we will never be faced with such an occurrence ourselves, but can anyone guarantee that? Unfortunately no.This is why people go armed.
