You'll definitely get more on your own once you start doing some practical work yourself.

Do universities verify the extra curricular activities listed in undergraduate college applications?University applications are becoming more and more competitive every single year. One very important part of the admission process is obviously academic excellence. But the fact is that most universities today are giving increasing importance to students who show interest in a non-academic area. They are looking for students with a well-rounded education, someone who will engage with their college community on a more wholesome basis. So they don’t just want you to know a lot of facts—they also want you to be able to engage with the world around you meaningfully. The best way for them to gauge this, is by evaluating your interest, passion and commitment in extracurricular activities.As a student, you can list this in your resume if you won any significant awards, or share it in your essays, if your participation helped you develop some skills or insights that you think are worth mentioning. You can also highlight this aspect through Letters of Recommendations (LoRs) from your teachers, school counselors or Principal. These letters are meant to provide a clearer picture of your skills and achievements.But with so many essays and LoRs flooding the admission offices, how many Universities actually bother to read these or follow them up? Are you likely to be caught if you lie or exaggerate?The answer is both yes and no. Admission staff are quite well aware that most students will exaggerate their extracurricular achievements. It’s human nature to try and make it seem like even the smallest contribution a student made was the most crucial thing ever. That’s expected, but outright lying is unacceptable. So, for instance, you CAN claim to be part of the Drama Society even if you only attended once or twice, but you Cannot claim to have directed plays, played the lead role, or led the drama team to wins in competitions unless you actually did those things.Suppose you do embellish your application, can your little lies get caught? Yes, and it is more common than you think. Since the admission staff is prepared for some mild exaggerations (and are even ok with it), they look out for more tangible details. There are two avenues to check an applicant’s actual ability:-Test scores like GPA, SAT and TOEFL are proof of your abilities which are measurable and verifiable. For instance, they are not going to believe that a person with a low school grade or test score was also the President of the robotics club in school.-LoRs submitted on your behalf. If the recommendations do not give concrete examples to show the qualities they say you have, or if they sound too generic, the university will decide that there were no special achievements and you lied in your application form.The truth is that universities will rarely go through each application with a fine tooth comb, looking for lies. Unless you have wildly exaggerated your achievements, they will not follow up on each detail.But they will interview you on the basis on your claims. If you have made false statements, these will not stand to sustained scrutiny. So, be factual in your details. Even a small lie will mean an outright rejection.

It's an Engineering program, and by 8th grade (13 years old), they've shown their aptitude with computer programming thus far.Another reason why you should give your teacher a quick bullet-point /two paragraph list of your accomplishments: I've seen teachers turn these cover letters into part of their essay.It isn't out of the realm of possibility that your teacher will essentially plagiarize your cover letter, which is what you want because you control the narrative. I had a college professor who wanted me to write a paragraph explaining the most admirable thing I had done in my time in his class. He took that paragraph of mine, and changed the pronouns. The rest of the letter was formulaic - that was the paragraph that had the selling points in it.So yes, give your teacher time to write the recommendation (don't wait, hand it to them as soon as the deadlines open…), and definitely give them a list of your accomplishments to jog their memory. That list can be in short-form [team captain], or describe your favorite memories or experiences that help you stand out for your program [began working with animals at age 8, rescued a dog named "Fido."]Teachers love the assistance and forethought that a cover letter illustrates for us.
