My Grandpa Tom was a real old reprobate. He worked steadily in his assorted occupations, but at home he was (apart from being a good vegetable gardener) pretty idle; he sat back and let Granny do everything around the house, even painting and decorating. His motto in life was, “If God doesn't come, He sends,” and it was amazing how often things they needed just dropped into their hands.He smoked like a chimney (Embassy No. 6), claiming he only did it to collect the Green Shield stamps, and once he'd finished his morning's gardening, he would disappear to the pub. He was pretty sozzled by the time he got home for the evening meal. Mostly this just made him first giggly, and then inclined to fall asleep in his armchair by the fire, but on Sundays he would go to the pub early and then come home for Granny’s Sunday lunch, late, resentful and in a smouldering temper. Granny’s Sunday lunches were always excellent, but as a meal it was terrifying; we children scarcely dared to breathe loudly.Mostly he just drank beer, but after Granny died he went to live with my aunt and uncle in Scotland, where he discovered the local pub and his son's monthly account, and developed a taste for whisky. The pub landlord told my uncle that with two more customers like Tom, he reckoned he'd be able to retire in five years! At our wedding reception, my husband asked him about the new whisky habit, and he explained solemnly that it was “a great deal less in-tox-i-cating than beer,” and giggled.Sadly, the nirvana existence of life in Scotland came to an end, but he continued to drink, at mostly other people's expense, for the rest of his life. He lived back in our home village for a while, spending most of his time in the local pub; he would sit at a small table near the door, gazing sadly at an empty glass, until someone came through the doorway and said, “Hello Tom! What are you drinking?” As a system it worked beautifully, and he was seldom sober, but at no personal expense.He died in his late eighties, having never that I saw had a day's illness; he was just always perfectly well. I say “his late eighties,” but I can't be precise, because (as I discovered recently) he added a few years to his age in order to join the Royal Navy in World War One; he can't have been more than 16 when it ended, and he'd seen action for at least two years. They were going to sea, and to war, as children. He's the boy on the left in this picture:So, not what you'd call a heroic life, but he was fortunate to live beyond his teens. For him and all his generation, We will remember them.

Currently you can get reward from up to 10 gyms at once. This means maximum reward is 100 coins and 5000 stardust.You can claim the gym (or gyms) right before your 21 hour timer counts to zero and claim reward before anyone defeats your gym. Than you need to retake the gym after another 21 hours in order to claim reward again. You can see countdown timer when you open 'shop'. It's the green shield in the top right corner.It is recommended to get control of gyms in lowly populated areas as you are able to hold them for days possibly and capture city gyms only right before claiming your reward.

There are problems with Canada's Healthcare system but for the most part, it works. Those who cannot afford to pay for care get at least basic care, eg can go to a walk in clinic and have a doctor see them without paying…can have hospital stays (in ward rooms with 4 or more people), not the greatest care but they get that. There are companies such as Green Shield where you can pay a monthly fee and get better treatment options. Those that have disabilities or are on government assistance apply for insurance coverage so they can get prescriptions, doctor visits etc covered. Then there are those that have company insurance, again better treatment options, your company pays for. There are some that fall through the cracks and get nothing. I was there for a while while unemployed. That needs to be fixed. Also if you need specialized tests, such as MRIs, since there are so many others and the MRI is free for them, there are long waiting lists. It is better to go to the US to get these tests done as the wait is so long and since the US citizens have to pay for it, the waiting times are fewer.
