Your best bet would be to look into Air Ambulance services (expensive!), or AngelFlight, which transports people in privately owned aircraft for little or no charge. Another name to check is Med Transport.Check with charities in your area. Some airports may have a list of medical transport services.Good luck!

[1] The cost for this medical service depends heavily on the distance and location. A couple of years ago I needed to move my mom from her home to an assisted living facility near me. She had dementia and it was time to move her into a home. It was quite stressful to figure out. She lived in Arkansas and I live in New Hampshire, a long distance trip of over 1012 miles. Complicating matters was her fragile condition and inability to walk more than a few steps.I looked into EVERY option. Here's what I found. Hope it helps you in your search.Flying Commercial - Total Cost: $1,430 | ($750 tickets + $980 Pods storage moving)This wasn't an option given how crowds would stress her, low mobility, and other health concerns. The tickets were around $750 with me flying down and then back with her. To send all her stuff would be an[2] other $980 with the Pods.Flying Air Ambulance- Total Cost: $13,769 | $12,789 charter + $980 (Pods storage moving)Yes you are reading that number correctly. A one way flight schedule was quoted around $12,789. The flight would include medical staff and crew and just a few other patients. Chartering a private plane is clearly not cheap. On top of that cost I still would have to pay the $980 to do the Pods.Ground Options - I made these categories to keep track of the types of long distance non emergency medical transport providers.Rental Van - Total Cost: $994 | $644 rental van + $220 fuel + $152 hotelRenting a van or big u-Haul was something else I considered. The price was ok, but the experience sounded horrible. With me doing the driving and loading the trip would probably have taken 20 - 25 hours spread over 2 stressful days. With me driving I wouldn't have been able to respond to my mother and she would have needed attention every few hours. I also don't know how often she would have needed the bathroom. Overall my concerns for her health outweighed the potential savings.Van Driver - Total Cost: $6,192 | $5,060 charter + $152 hotel + $980 (Pods storage moving)I reached out to a few local private vans. They normally drive for dr. appointments and such. A single driver came in around $5,060 before stopping for a nights rest at the hotel. Using a local van seemed better than a tin can ambulance service, but not by much. Questionable ride quality and that's a lot of time with a stranger driver. Plus they limited the luggage to like two bags. That meant I'd have to pay the $980 to do the Pods.Ambulance Van/Truck - Total Cost: $8,064 | $7,084 charter + $980 (Pods storage moving)The local emergency ambulance provider was willing (begrudgingly) to pull a vehicle from service. These stretcher transport quotes came in the highest at around $7,084. The medical care, EMT etc was a peace of mind, but I couldn't get over the seating arrangement (or lack there of). Having my mom on the stretcher for 20ish hours would have been claustrophobic in ground ambulance ie tin can environment. These vehicles are designed for emergency medical transport not long distance trips. On top of that cost I still would have to pay the $980 to do the Pods.Medical RV - Total Cost: $9,560 | $9,560 charterThis option had the max features. Comfortable arrangements, tv, bed, bathroom, and lots of space for all our moving boxes. Patient care was included. The price came out higher with the unique vehicle. Some people talked about safety issues but they didn't concern me much.Traditional Moving Service Cross Country - Total Cost: $5,630Keep in mind that the average all-in cost for a normal state to state move with movers and a uhaul truck etc is around $5,630[3]. That’s without medical personnel and any custom features to make the ride more comfortable for seniors.Total Costs by the MileHere are my total costs for long distance medical transport (1012 mile trip). The price seemed right for my particular situation. Our move went ok overall. I hadn't factored in the lack of a bathroom though. We stopped numerous times. They offered/tried to have my mom use the bedpan but it wasn't going to happen.It was a long exhausting ride. The stretcher became uncomfortable for my mom after 3 hours. Packing up all her items wore me out and I tried to doze for most of the bumpy ride. Planning out the logistics of the move was very tedious with me coordinating the van service, assisted living, and POD moving company. The nursing home had issues with the POD showing up too (the least of my concerns at the time).The Jitterbug Travel company you mentioned didn't exist when I did my search. Looking at their all-inclusive medical transport service[4] I wish they would have! They have all the amenities of the Medical RV but at the cost of the Van Service (around $5 per mile when I checked). My wife and son could have come helped pack the items and everyone could have ridden back home. As I noted the van ride did get quite long and during it I wished for a better experience (while still being cost effective). It is great having her near me and overall moving was the right choice.Prices probably have changed somewhat, but the general costs will likely be around what I found.
