An access token is an object that describes the security context of a process or thread. The information in a token includes the identity and privileges of the user account associated with the process or thread. It contains the security credentials for a login session and identifies the user , the user's groups, the user's privileges, and, in some cases, a particular application.When you log on to a system, you provide credentials in order to gain access to resources to which you have permission. You typically set these permissions by going to the security tab in the properties window of an object and add a user to the list along with the access that you either allow or deny. The security token is how this list (referred to as the Access Control List (ACL), validates you to allow or deny access. The token is an object representing your credentials and an access check is a search of the ACL to see if there is an entry with your name on it. So what about group membership? Security groups are a way to simplify security administration. If we are able to group users together, we can define an entry in the access control list for the security group instead of defining an entry for every user in your environment.For more info check Access tokenI don't know how to view it in a given website,but I'd love to know

I always felt the file system access controls was a cumbersome model. With Unix /Linux each file or directory had one owner,one group,and other. Each gets any combination of read /write /execute and for some (today most) even a stupid, setgid, sticky bit.In time the file systems grew to support access control lists (ACLs) which allow for a more fine grained scheme,but they never got rid of the legacy permissions. This means that a lot of pre planning most occur to figure out the appropriate groups and memberships.I also feel that if x windows were written today it would not use the network stack for communications between the client application and the graphics server. This model was great for dumb terminals to support graphics and works good still today for remote execution of graphical applications,but there are better ways of achieving remote access,and the current model makes high performance graphics engines difficult,like what is needed for games.
